APE Design Ctr
I use alot of 3D symbols when creating assemblies. I assign textures in all these symbols, and many of the same textures are used in different symbols. Every time I import another 3D symbol into the drawing, it asks me if I want to replace the existing texture that is currently in the drawing. I spend alot of time clicking the 'use ... use ... use ... use' buttons each time it asks to replace. Is there a way around this? Thanks Quote Link to comment
islandmon
Sure ... rename your files existing textures, eg. 'sand'>'sand-1'. Whenever I incorporate a texture within a symbol, I give it a different name, eg. 'frm-mtl-white-1' . This name is also keyed into a class style. Quote Link to comment
APE Design Ctr
Good advice. With this scenario, I may have dozens and dozens of textures. Do you think this will be weighty on file size, and moving around or rendering the drawing? Thanks. Quote Link to comment
Guest
Yes, it will add significantly to the file size. What I suggest doing is importing the symbols you will use on a regular basis into a new, blank document. Yes, you'll get the message, but click ignore. Then, save the file as a template. Use the template file for new projects. The benefits are that you will already have the symbols in the file and will not need to import them, and you won't have to worry about the message.
