Exporting Worksheet as excel file

I am using OS X & VW 10.5.1.

I want to export a worksheet as an excel file. I have excel for mac but that file extension is not an option when I go to export. I am new to Mac & VW and just not sure how to get around. Is there a setting somewhere or do I have to use one of the extensions that is provide already in the dialog box.

Export as tab delimited. Excel can open a tab delimited text file.

In excel, go to File>Open and select the text file.
