wall inside and outside

When creating a new wall type, how do you know which side will be used as the "outside" when inserting door and window objects. ie, which side will the window external sill line be closet to when you ctrl drag a window from one wall into another wall?

When you're in plan view and select a wall, a little triangle will show up that shows the wall's orientation. The "outside" is consistently one side relative to that direction, I forget which (I think on the left, but one test with a window should tell you for sure.)

If you use wall cavities (hatches that show the wall composition), that can be a helpful indication that your walls are oriented properly.
