There should be an option (on by default) for spaces 3D color attributes to match their 2D attributes. You should be able to uncheck this box - and then be able to modify them seperatly as required - but most of the time I want the 3D Volume color to match the 2D color so my 3D and 2D diagrams match. It is currently a very cumbersome process to get them to match.
