Importing autocad files

I have a problem importing autocad files (R14, I believe). They appear to be documents (they have no suffix) and cannot be imported, so I add the suffix dwg. The resulting scale appears 1000 times off, i.e. although I set page units to metres, the dimensions read as if in mm. So I cannot 'fit to window' or print.

I import in metres, and have ther no. of units as 1=3'3" and 'fit to page'

I have tried numerpous other combinations without success. Any suggestions?

First - check with the person whom created the AC file and find out what units they are using.

Second - When you import, make sure you set the units drop down box (Model Space Units) to that unit measurement.

In the box that says Model Space Scale - Make sure you set this to "This Scale".

That will allow the import process to import correctly.
