Details from model

Just wondering how others extract details from their modelled building?

It seems that the file that i am working on doesn't work with workgroup references which is really annoying, it is very buggy, the section viewports of the referenced file has classes and components missing.

I want to have the details in a separate file than the model, as the file is already very large. (I use a VPN for connecting to the main office for uploading and downloading files therefore i want to keep files as small as possible).

The other other option I can think of is use the original file do the detail and then copy and paste over to the detail folder. Has anyone got any other suggestions?

Changing the settings in the navigation palette>references>settings... and then change the design layer viewport to layer import worked. I now at least have something to trace over.
