Text selection box gap?

Anyone know how to get rid of this gap between the bottom of the text and the selection box?

You can't. The selection box is the biggest box that can be made with the largest possible text of the type you have.

That's not good because if you have the text alignment set center center, the center is not in the center of the text but instead in the center of the selection box!?

You could convert the text to paths, but you lose the textiness of it all. If what you want is just the center point, then you could write a script to convert a duplicate text object to paths, find its center, delete the path object and place a locus at that point. I know, it's like using a bazooka to kill a mosquito, but how often do you get to fire a bazooka?

Sorry...too big a hassle Raymond....all I want to do is to get the text to position itself in the middle of the the object ie. snap center to center. (We usually have descriptive abbreviations in our appliances etc. on plans....) I'll have to accept it the way it is .....however it would have been nice to be able to adjust this!?
