S4 PAR and PARnel symbols misalligned in 3D, rendering incorrect

Recommended Posts

Hi guys. New Vectorworks user here. :) I'm using Vectorworks 2012 SP1 on Windows 7 x64 and I'm currently trying to draft my first lighting plot. I'm running into a problem when trying to visualize my design. It appears that ETC Source Four PAR and PARnel fixtures are misaligned in 3D when aimed at a focus point. When I check "Draw Beam", the beam is drawn correctly but if you zoom in on the fixture geometry in 3D you can see it's misaligned, and if I turn the light on and render a visualization the light is not aimed at the focus point as it should be. It seems like the more the fixture is rotated away from the horizontal normal line to the bar, the more it tilts upward.

I'm using the provided ETC symbols from Libraries/Objects-Entertainment/Lighting-ETC.vwx

I recreated this in as simple of a scene as possible to make sure it wasn't my complex file that was causing problems. Here's a screenshot to sum up the issue:

The VWX file is attached below. I've submitted a technical support request as this seems like it's a bug, but if anyone could help me as well that would be great!

Edit: Also worth noting that I had this problem in 2012 (no service packs) and SP1 did nothing to fix the issue (still exists)

Thanks so much! :)

Hi Ericsrocks;

When you have a chance, update your profile to include your machine & vw version. [then you don't have to write it into your post every time].

the vw etc par body is your culprit; and more specifically, inside the body, is the 3D locus. edit the 3d component of the symbol; select the 3D locus, and change both the X and Y axis of the 3d component to 0". exit the symbol, refresh the drawing, and all of the source 4 bodies should correctly reorient themselves to their assigned focus points.

hth,

Thanks guys

I also needed to use an ETC S4 and found some bizzare behavior from it.

This fix sorted it out though.

Why was this not included in the service packs? it is obvious a problem.

I found this aswell:

Seems there is a new fualt with the symbol.

I did as mentioned above by Mr.T and it worked.

I edited the symbol so to point 90 deg/horizontal.

Light comes in on z=0,looks fine, so I move it to 1500 and the symbol, not the yolk tilts 49 deg up.

Whjern I go back and edit the symbol it shows to be be at 90 deg/horizontal and after editing back to zore it is tilted 49 upwards

WHY IS THERE SO MUCH WRONG WITH THIS EXPENSIVE PROGRAM??
