nakedeye
I've imported a 2D tree into VW2009 from sketch up, can anyone tell me how to extrude this? i've tried various 'convert to' options but to no avail Quote Link to comment

nakedeye
what i want to do is extrude this and then subtract this from a block so i have the cutaway of the tree. Quote Link to comment
Ray Libby
1. Convert to group, it's not a symbol now, then ungroup. 2. I deleted any of the lines that connect the holes in the center of the tree. 3. Selected each of the holes and Composed, they are now polylines. 4. Selected all, then deselected each of the holes. 5. Now just the outline of the tree is selected, then compose to make it a polyline. 6. Select all, then deselect the polyline that is the outline of the tree, just the holes are now selected, send to front. 7. Select all, Clip Surface. Now delete the polylines that are the holes in the tree. This is the state the tree is in now, ready to extrude. Quote Link to comment
Ray Libby
1.1 Sorry, after step one you need to Select All and Convert to Lines. Quote Link to comment
nakedeye
Thanks Ray, that works great. now if i want to subtract this from a 3d rectangle so i get the outline of the tree what do i do? i have tried selecting both and subtract solid but it de-selects the tree as its not a 3D object.
