GetEditText?

I created a dialog with an EditText box. How do I set what the user types to a variable so that I can create a textfield in vectorworks?

I've gotten it to work with string dialogs but not using a modern dialog.

I know that if I create an EditReal box I can use a GetEditReal to set the value to a variable, but how do I do that with the text string? I haven't found a GetEditText that I can use to set the text to a string variable.... please help

I've never needed to do this, but it seems you can use GetField.

Should be good for about 2 years at least. (see post on legacy dialog by Lyndsey).

do you know if there is a better way to allow a user to input text in a dialog box and then have it create the text in a text box in vectorworks?

Presumably there's something else going on here...

Choice box with pre-defined strings perhaps?

Symbol with linked text from attached record maybe? (no scripting required)

Can't really remember how this works but it's in help. I think it lets you type in Object Info Data pane and have it show up in the symbol in the drawing. The symbol could contain a text box.
