exporting dwg errors

We are trying to a export a drawing to a .dwg file but towards the end of the process are receiving the following message:

"OpenDWG Library Error 3:

The file could not be opened. Make sure it is not already open in another application."

The export has then failed.

What does this mean? What can we do?

We have tried purging the drawing and removing symbols in case they are in some way corrupt, but to no avail.

Any ideas?

I have had this problem a number of times.

The only workaround is to simply open a fresh

template & copy & paste only the relevent objects to it.

This was the only solution that tech support in the uk could come up with !

There should be an entire discussion forum for DXF and DWG issues into and out of Vectorworks. Some things to consider to avoid fatal errors include: layer scale, walls becoming a zillion p-lines, symbol to group, lineweight to 1mil, line type not dashed, patterns to no fill, and purging unused stuff. Layer links and WGR links will not export. That's just the basics. Latest version of VW can handle much more of these problems than previous versions. It's worth experimenting for pros and cons of each issue because there are pluses and minuses to each route.

How can you avoid wlls to became a zillion p-line? What can you do to corrige that?

In my case I found the problem to be an errant dimension that was off the page somewhere, which I couldn't see.

To select it I had to 'select all' and then deselect everything within my page boundary. I then deleted the errant dimension and was able to export an uncorrupted DWG file.
