When this was discussed last time, I was a bit skeptical - and perhaps still am, but yes, this would be very good.

(Skeptical because CAD-work is even less linear than photoshopping and users may expect impossible things like un-undoing this, but not that, although the steps are interdependent.)

Why not ? What's the big deal ... for those special moments when programming a project requires it ... and the overhead trade-off is both reasonable & acceptable.

Passing the process off to the OS without consuming all the resources is the real issue here. Perhaps, integrating a Subversion module...
