Heather S
Does anyone know some good sites where I could pick up some PIO's, 2D's, 3D's, ect? Quote Link to comment
Guest
Vectordepot.com is very good. Is there something specific you are looking for? Quote Link to comment
Heather S
I am looking for some gable vents. Quote Link to comment
Guest
I would search the internet for those. In most cases, you can find a 2D and or 3D model of some format which can be used by VW. Since VW can import a plethora of file formats, using an already-created symbol is rather simple. Here's a website that appears to let you enter in the configuration of a gable vent, it will draw it, and create a dwg file of the vent. You can easily import this in to your VW project files. http://www.steelselect.com/steeltalk/july_2006.htm Quote Link to comment
Heather S
I cant import dwg files. Quote Link to comment
Guest
HMV - Can you provide some more detailed information? What problem are you having while importing? What version DWG are you importing? What version of VW are you using? What OS are you using? Are you getting an error message? If so, what is the message? Quote Link to comment
Heather S
Katie Sorry, I posted to the wrong thread. I was repling to "symbols" thread. The blonde roots are gettin to me. Quote Link to comment
Guest
I deleted the duplicate post ... Is your importing problem related to the symbols thread, or a new topic? Quote Link to comment
Heather S
I had posted the thread titled "symbols". I was replying to the symbols thread. However, I accidently posted my problem to this thread.... Quote Link to comment
Guest
I just tried to merge this with the other post, but I don't think it worked. Either way -- I need the above questions answers in order to resolve the issue. You can post the replies to this thread Quote Link to comment
Heather S
I was trying to import some 3d symbols from the site you had recommended. A new layer was created with the import. But the symbol is not visable. I have made all layers and classes visable. Quote Link to comment
Guest
See if you can go to select all and select something. Then go to Modify > Edit Symbol Select all again and look to see if the pen color is set to white. Is there a specific symbol you imported that you are having a problem with? Was this from vectordepot.com or another site? Quote Link to comment
Heather S
The pen color was not visable. The site I was using was http://www.steelselect.com/steeltalk/july_2006.htm Quote Link to comment
Guest
Did you resolve this by changing the pen color? The objects created are not symbols - they are simply polygons. If you want to use it as a symbol, you'll have to save it as a symbol. Quote Link to comment
Heather S
Yes, thanks so much. I was hoping to be able to import a 3D object so I would not have to create one though. Do you know of any sites like that? I know sketchup has one does VW? Quote Link to comment
Guest
Vectordepot.com has symbols in a native VW format. If you are looking for 3D objects, you may want to search the internet for .igs or .3ds files. Many of these are free, but some do require either a subscription or purchase as needed. The gable vent specifically, from the website I posted, can be extruded to create a 3D object and dropped into a wall. It wouldn't take more than a minute to get the data into a 3D object. I would expect you'd spend more time looking for a 3D symbol on the internet than taking the 2d gable vent and converting it to 3d. Quote Link to comment
