It would be useful if we could change the opacity of a single object (in the attributes palette) as opposed to using a whole Layer. In Photoshop opacity works very well on a Layer level, but in VectorWorks you're generally wanting to use Layers for other things so another Layer for opacity purposes just complicates the file.
