David Hogan
Since I received no answers to my earlier post, and with a deadline looming, I will ask again. How does one convert a solid massing model to floor plans/shell? I ran model setup, then went through the steps listed in the Designer manual explicitly-and nothing happens. I have the training CDs but don't remember this as being covered. Quote Link to comment
Vectorworks, Inc Employee Robert Anderson Posted February 22, 2007 Vectorworks, Inc Employee Share Posted February 22, 2007 I have tried the Model to Floorplan with a complex 3D solid and am getting unexpected results. Why don't you email me (randerson@nemetschek.net) the file you are trying to use and I will look at it? In the meantime, here's an alternative workflow to get "floor plates" into a complex solid: 1. View your solid model in front or side view. 2. Choose the "create contours" tool off the 3D modeling tool palette. 3. Use the preference button in the mode bar to set your floor-to-floor height. 4. Draw a line at the first floor level of your shape. 5. NURBS curves are created at your floor levels. You can convert these to polylines and make slabs or wall arrangements from them (using the Objects from Poly command). HTH. I will look into the Model to Floorplan command and will let you know what's up. Here's an image of a model created using the above workflow: Quote Link to comment
David Hogan
Thanks so much-I'll do that tonight. I should mention my model was quite simple-no NURBS or curves. I wasn't aware of the option you present. Quote Link to comment
