TylerT
We have been working on some of our office standards. When dealing with renovation project we like to show the existing items in a lighter tone. We thought and easy way to manage this would be with applying an opacity of say 20% to the existing layer. This works great except that an item on a layer with an opacity set no longer has a solid fill. For example in a buidling elevation. Draw a rectangle with a hatch for siding and drop a window symbol on it that has a solid background fill to block out the siding below. With an opacity set the siding shows right thru. Any help would be apprieciated. thanx tyler Quote Link to comment
Guest
If it's a 3d window symbol or window plugin obj, then it's not going to block anything until the window is rendered. Quote Link to comment
TylerT
Its a simple 2d window elevation symbol we have generated ourselves. It has a solid fill background to block out whatever its placed on top of. When its placed on a layer with an opacity set the solid fill has no effect. Quote Link to comment
Guest
Is it on the same layer as the rectangle? Quote Link to comment

TylerT
the window and wall on the left are on the layer with and opacity set the same window and wall on the right are on a different layer with no opacity set. Quote Link to comment
Petri
The solid fill of the symbol can't be opaque if the layer is not opaque. Quote Link to comment
Guest
If the objects are on the same layer, the layer opacity will apply to BOTH (all) objects on the layer, therefore will not block out any other objects. The idea of opacity is that you can see through the objects and control how transparent those objects are. If you want the window to be 100% opaque and the wall to be semi transparent, then put them on separate layers and adjust the layer opacity accordingly. Quote Link to comment
