Object Info Questions

Recommended Posts

Here's the first of several questions...

I'm putting together a folder of instruments that we use at our high school. I'd like to make this as "drag and drop" easy as possible for my kids.

A. I need to change some of the Object info so that it matches our inventory. How?

I want to make the same data come up each time we insert an instrument on the drawing.

B. Under the Data section I get Inst. Record, Instruments, Legends Rec, Light Info Record, Lightwright... should any of these be checked? Again, should this be used? How?

C. As I use the Generate Paperwork section, I get a message...

Error: Get Instrument Info Fieldcount-index outside array limits.

D. As long as I've got you... how do I change the 2-fer tool into a 3-fer?

Enough questions. Thanks for reading and hopefully responding.

Dave,

In response to A-to edit those fields, you need to edit the symbol itself and then edit the light info record. Let's say in your theatre you have S4s, Fresnels, and Pars. Open a blank document and import the appropriate symbols. Edit the symbol from the resource pallette (Not after it has been inserted as lighting instrument object). You can the select the data pane. Click on the light info record (Not on the X becuase that will delete the record from it.)

Then, edit the fields you would like.

(You may want to check out the main VW manual on creating and editing symbols if you are new to this)

In reference to Part B-Light Info Record is the only record that should be attached to the symbol.

In reference to Part C-this seems to happen if you are generating a channel hookup and some of your channel fields are blank. Or if you are using any kind of "wild cards" like a ?*/ etc in any of the fields.

In reference to Part D-You can create a three-fer by just selecting the 2nd instrument and then the third. It's not as elegant as a multiple ganging tool (on the wish list), but it will get you the results you need.

I hope that helps.
