Cadplan Architecture

I just solved this one thanks to a tel call to VSS. I'll pass on the info in case anyone else gets the same problem; all you do is double click any of the icons in the Snapping palette, it will reveal a Smart Cursor Settings window, just select each constraint type in turn and press the Reset button in the bottom right of the window. Thumbs up to VSS as one call can save valuable time!

The only time we tried importing an SU file into VW2011 we ended up having to literally copy and paste each SU layer into the VW file. I would rather just stick to VW files!

I've just updated to SP4, I just tried help and it didn't open, however I then got a screen prompt message to update Adobe Air (see attached), I installed and help open up straight away.

When I go to draw a line from another line or object in top plan view Endpoint no longer appears, it just won't snap to the endpoint even if I press Y. Screen hints is switched on. All I can get to come up is Along Line. I thought SP4 4 might fix it but just tried and it doesn't. Any ideas?

I'm fairly new to modelling roofs but the tool seems limited in some respects. Ok you can show roof planes and add textures for tiles, this looks ok when the viewpoint is some way off, but when you get closer it doesn't look as it should do in real life. Is there a way to show ridge tiles, as for example on a fully hipped roof, and is there a way to show the bottom 2 or 3 rows of tiles tilted up slightly as this is a very common feature of British roofs? Another thing I've noticed is that once a roof has been created you don't seem to be able to change the pitch in the info palette .

That's a shame as the ability to select an edge or a point and manipulate them would make 3D modelling a lot more functional. Another one for the new release wish list I guess.

thanks jim, there are certainly loads there and much easier to view than in Vectorworks. Just one question- where do I put the texture and the bump map in VW? (ps I look forward to being able to use the thatched roof texture!)

I posted in the Architects forum but it's probably more relevant here. I'm looking for a slate roof texture map and wondering where to look beyond the defaults textures which are rather limited and UAS biased. I also would like a texture map for normal roof tiles, and also for cladding as opposed to the default siding. thanks

I want my roof to show as grey slates. Is there a slate texture somewhere or can I make my own from a suitable photo image? Is it possible to have a paving hatch which can be used at different angles on 2D plans?

When I used FormZ I could select a face or an edge to push/pull. Is it possible to PP an edge in VW2014?

Ah, right done it now. I found the missing call out number, it's on another layer, I think I must have copied and pasted it which is obviously not a good idea. I think I need to understand Call Outs a bit more as they are a powerful resource. I'm guessing that they need generating from scratch for each design layer or sheet layer to stop them migrating. Hey that's really cool. I've got rid of the NA's, just one question, I imported your worksheets, I've got a huge long list of al my callouts! I'm all set to find the stray one but your Callout sheet has a header and a sidebar which mine doesn't (see attached screenshot). Is there a control to reveal?? cheers Andrew

Ive drawn a section with some call outs placed as Keynotes and other not. The keynote lists the call outs from 1-9. Some have N/A against them, one particular once has text against it which I want to edit, its No9 but I can't see a 9 on the drawing. Is there a way of interrogating the drawing to show where No9 is?

Thanks Jim, I've had my Mac wiped and reset at a Genius bar, they freed up plenty of GB so I now have 117GB free. I have just tried downloading SP3 again and in the Downloads the progress bar hangs, at that point my Mac just freezes completely with a message saying that I have run out of application memory. I have 8GB. If I trash the partial download everything is fine again so it looks to be associated with the VW download itself. I guess I'll have to struggle on without any VW updates for now and get on to the VSS people tomorrow. cheers, Andrew

I have tried to download the service packs but got a message to say that there is insufficient disc space even though I have 70GB. Has anyone else had similar problems?

Yes that did it for me, thanks. I also found a useful You Tube clip pertaining to roof faces, I haven't yet managed to extend connect the roof faces as the clip shows but the push pull tool works well enough to get around that

I'm learning to use the roof tools in VW2011. I'm trying to draw a roof from four walls which form a rectangular garage. The axis defaults to the longer dimension. Is there a way to select the shorter dimension as the axis?

Is there a way to purge unused symbols from a file as even my more simple schemes quickly build up to over 13mb? I'm prompted to ask because someone mentioned this in a Linkedin forum re Archicad V Vectorworks

I use Call Out and keynotes, they are very useful indeed and of course are a key part in BIM, but would agree that they can be frustrating to control. I need to spend some time looking more into how keynotes and the data base function work, at the moment if I set up new keynotes on a new viewport the text appears as the default font and text height, I guess there must be a way of customising the default option.

I've discovered the Solar Animation tool and made a couple of Quicktime movies as a shadowing study to support a planning application. I don't really want to send the planning dept the full movie, I would prefer to either edit it to contain just the two hour time duration that I need, or to be able to extract still frames. At the moment I have taken screenshots which are ok, but a higher resolution would be great. I've tried iMovie but it seems a bit complex. Any ideas? Thanks

Thanks Peter, there is one 3D palm file there but it only has a three trunk palm. Are there other 3D palms? Maybe I'm not viewing the file correctly, could there be some concealed perhaps?

Any one know if there is one in the symbol libraries?

no it's not that, I tried before posting, in any case it affects dimensions as well and you can't adjust the spacing for theses. It's odd as if I use the eye dropper tool to copy the attributes from another dimension, the spacing all jumps back to normal. Maybe it's some type of bug

My text has started entering weirdly. When I type the vertical cursor is a lot larger that the selected text. The text appears at the correct size but the field below is large and I can't see any way of reducing it. Oddly even dimension text is suffering the same way. It's probably something stupid that I've done but I can't see what. Any ideas??
