  1. Am I the only one who can no longer stop renderings in progress with VW2015? I hit command+. or the escape button, but the rendering will not abort. I'm on a mac Best regards, Kaare
  2. Sorry Jim – I forgot crucial information: I make pdf's from my sheet layers... Then I compress the pdf's, so I can mail them to the customer... THEN the problem arises – if I forgot to give renderings a solid background. Here is a white object on a solid backgrund: Here is the same object without background fill: Here is a pdf with two pages - the second page has no solid fill behind the rendering: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxL3Oyph55RRcDhRcFZ6UXdyMFk/view?usp=sharing I am sorry for the confusion
  3. I would be surprised, if not every VW user has had the same experience. I have seen the effect on every printer, I have used, but it is especielly visible on laserprinters. The problem is, that pure white becomes transparent in the viewport, but any amount of colour or gray will make the pixels none-transparent. The edge between transparent and non-transparent pixels will print slightly tinted – resulting in an odd effect. I dont think my camera will catch this, but I am sure, you will see the same effect in images with a lot of white-ish objects.
  4. I may have missed a setting here, but here is the problem: Every new viewport I make comes with transparent background as a default. It looks OK on a monitor, but it prints very poorly with strange grey edges. I wish new viewports always had solid fill as a default.
  5. I often need to manipulate individual nurbs vertices to get a shape just right. It is slow work because Vectorworks does not allow me to select a vertice directly. I have to find the relevant vertice through the OIP by clicking through all of the vertices one at a time. I wish I could just option-click on any vertice – from within the Reshape Tool – to select that particular vertex and have its coordinates and weight displayed in the OIP (in the move vertex only mode). My second wish should also be possible: Some tools and some commands only work on untrimmed surfaces. I wish Vectorworks would offer a command to create new, untrimmed surfaces based on trimmed surfaces with 3 or 4 corners without holes. (There should probably be an accuracy setting for this). Thanks in advance :-)
  6. Surprisingly this issue is not fixed in VW 2015 SP1. It's a bit like MS Office issuing a new release to fix a printerdriver – but you still can't use the letters A, B & C
  7. Another PDF export problem: Export classes as pdf layers does not work in VW2015.
  8. Hi Jim Here is the file: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxL3Oyph55RRWFRsWkxEVmEzamM/view?usp=sharing Do an add surface on the first objects to get the second object with redundant control points. Do you get a different result?
  9. Redundant control points are added to 2D objects after boolean operations. It happens in VW2015 everytime I do a boolean on objects with arc smoothing. This is very frustrating – especialy since the redundant points are not added symmetrically. As a result, I can no longer snap reliably to centerpoints. Is there a fix in the pipeline?
  10. Thanks for the new features. Check out the new 3ds import function with some meshes from archive3d.net. The textures are beautifully mapped ? even for UV textures ? and the mapping remains correct even when you tweak the mesh. Well done!
  11. There are a lot of good, free textured 3D objects on the internet ? 35.000+ at archive3d.net alone. A great source if you are doing renderings. 3D objects typically come in two formats: .3DS or .OBJ. The first format is used by archive3D, the last is used by 123D, Poser and others. I would like to be able to import both - including correctly mapped textures ? but I would settle for one format, that actually works. VectorWorks 3DS import does not work well. Textures are poorly supported and the mapping is lost in the import process. Texture mapping of imported meshes is not supported by VW at all ? and mapped meshes is what I want - and you should want it too ? because of the great VW feature of mesh smoothing. Alternatively, I want to somehow be able to use smoothing on groups of 3D polygons - if they are indeed imported with correct mapping in the future. Some time ago, I imported a car into VW. After about an hour of work converting groups of 3D polygons into meshes and tweaking the textures, I got a a fairly realistic-looking car, that I can use again and again. Great. A week later I imported the same car into Strata Design 3D. It took less than 10 minutes to get an even better result here. The point is, that the usability of free 3D libraries like archive3D.net is greatly enhanced, if you can just grab those objects and use them as is.
  12. Benson and others - Here is a workaround, if you need to edit complex meshes: 1. Enter the mesh, you wish to edit. 2. Create a 3D polygon at a place, where it is easy to locate again. 3. Send to back. 4. Exit mesh and do the edits. All 'strangeness' will now focus on that poor innocent 3D polygon. 5. Delete the decoy when you're done.
  13. If I place spotlights and point lights in a scene, I cannot use OpenGL on that scene, because it renders very different from Renderworks and usually results in an almost black screen. So in the OpenGL Render Settings, I wish I had an option that makes OpenGL ignore all light objects, except perhaps a heliodome, so that I could still see and edit the geometry of any scene in OpenGL.
  14. I have recently upgraded from VW Architect 2011 to 2014. I was led to believe, that in this version I can now get an automatic ground plane to a scene and give it a texture ? but I cannot locate this feature. Was I mistaken or is there a trick, that I need to know about?
  15. I can confirm and add to the issue: I cannot deselect the vertex, that is added to my selection: [video:youtube]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEXfCY0aBGM&feature=youtu.be
  16. Off the top of my head, I only get this one, so perhaps I should not have used plural. Maybe other types of users have more.
  17. I get this warning at least 50 times a day: [img:center]http:www.idesign.li/1.png[/img] So I have to dismiss it, then select the screen plane object, then change it to a layer plane object and then select tapered extrude once more. One would think, that I'd wise up and only use the command on the correct type of object. But after at least 25.000 instances, I guess, I have to conclude, that I will never learn. Here is a different, much more constructive warning: [img:center]http:www.idesign.li/2.png[/img] I get this all the time too, but her I can choose to just hit enter, and the program will give me what I want. I wish that I would get a similar warning with the tapered extrude command ? like "Would you like to automatically change all objects to a screen aligned layer plane?" This would not just improve VW, but also my life. Thanks.
  18. Hi again Jim The problem reappeared today. I made a short video, that illustrates the issue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stmIFrXkYHY&feature=youtu.be Following your instructions: Yes, I am able to snap to the edges of an extruded rectangle without issue, but as you can see, it is a different matter with the cylindical part of the solid.
  19. Yes, AndiACD. The command would be the same, so you would not notice the difference. In the OIP there would simply be an extra field for angle with a default value of 0?.
  20. Top 10 wishes for the next versions of VW: #1 ? And most important: The reshape tool still has the fillet radius entry field hidden away in a submenu. Please place it directly on the data bar. #2 The push/pull extrude face ? used on a solid object ? creates a tapered extrude and adds it to the solid, that it is used upon. This is actually a really useful feature. But when the tool is used on a 2D surface, I get an ordinary extrude, which is really just less. I want tapered extrudes everywhere and I want a taper angle entry field on the push/pull databar. #3 Actually: Please kill the basic extruded object altogether and display a taper setting for any extrude on the OIP. #4 The rotate setting on the OIP for extrude-along-path objects rotates the entire object. I can do that myself. I want the rotate-setting to rotate the profile within the extrude-along-path object and I want an additional setting to control how much that profile is twisted/rotated along the path. #5 When I drag n' drop an image onto an open VW document, I want a dialogue, that provides me with a complete set of options as to how to use the imported image. With a single click, I want to be able to use the dropped image as an image, a texture, an image prop, an image fill or as a Renderworks background. #6 Wall settings should include options for wall bases and edgings (I am not familiar with the correct terms in english). These could be texture based or consist of actual 3D geometry. #7 Kill the Add Decal command or redesign it. It is useless in its present state. #8 The physical skies are all blue or blueish. I wish I could change the hue and saturation #9 Rotating image environments is a pain. In fact it is a royal pain. I often have to make several versions of the same image environment because tweaking it is so time consuming. I wish the visualization palette had a tab for renderworks backgrounds, that included a fast, intuitive tool for tweaking image environments. #10 I wish for more tools like the Twist Tool: A Bend Tool, a Bulge Tool, a Taper Tool, a Distort Tool, etc. Thanks for listening.
  21. Hi Jim Something has changed, so that I cannot replicate the issue which is great except for the timing. I will get back to you, if the issue reappears.
  22. It has been several years since my last confession, so hello to all. I just upgraded from VW2011 to VW2014 on my iMac. Overall I am fairly pleased with the new features, but I have problems with 3D object snapping, which does not perform as expected. A lot of the time I do not get the snap, that I expect. But if I move the object slightly ? or zoom (using spacebar+x) with an object selected, I can invoke the snap, that was initially unavailable. I have checked and doublechecked all settings, but the problem remains. Is it a bug or am I missing a point? (no pun intended) Does anyone have the same problem?
