  1. Just wanting to get some views on how other offices manage their drawing issues.... and how they keep track of drawings leaving the office... We currently have three systems happening in our office and need to consolidate into one for QA purposes. As a basis we generate a pdf file of each sheet as a record set. In terms of drawing management we are currently looking at three options: OPTION 1... 1. Create PDF of each drawing revision, and have file name in format [drawing no] [drawing title] [revision].pdf all stored in folder called PDF ARCHIVE... 2. Use drawing transmittal sheet to record issue date and person sent to Pros: Simple and easy to access previous revisions quickly. Cons: Have to rename file after creation. Disconnect with rest of project management software for issue of drawings. OPTION 2... 1. Create PDF of each drawing revision, and have file name in format [drawing no] [drawing title].pdf and store in folders with the date of the revision. 2. Use drawing transmittal sheet to record issue date Pros: No renaming of files (which often does not get done)..Great for collating milestone issues Cons: Almost impossible to find old revisions of a file or print a current set from the most recent issues as you have to search through multiple folders. OPTION 3. 1. Create PDF of each drawing revision, and have file name in format [drawing no] [drawing title].pdf and store in folder called PDF Archive 2. Create shortcut of files to project management software (ARCHETYPE) 3. Update revision no. in Archetype 4. Issue drawings and do document transmittal in Archetype. Pros: Full record of when drawings were sent and who to - linked to contacts. The current set is always in the 'PDF archive' folder. You can go back and view previously issued sets as these are stored in archetype. Cons: Have to enter the revision no. twice...(in the drawing and also in Archetype) and when creating new drawings have to import and setup new drawings. How do others do it?

    Licensing/Activating

yes but you have to get into vectorworks to be able to access that menu... VW won't activate on the serial number entered when I installed...

Batch Export - Sheet Number / Title AND revision

Yes - in Sydney we do it similar to the UK.... Julien and co from OZ CAD have developed an improved title block and drawing management tool where you can update the revision no. of all drawings in one go.. Eg create next revision as "issued for comment" and it automatically adds the next incremental revision no to the title block. Part of this is the creation of a drawing transmittal sheet (A4) size that is a Worksheet on a sheet layer. So from a drawing management process all is good except for the renaming of the drawing sheets for record purposes. Licensing/Activating

having trouble managing serial numbers... just installed 2011 on a machine and told after activation that serial no aleady in use - but to change the serial no. to another one I have it seems I have to reinstall the software. Is this correct, or is there a way that I can change the serial no???

    Split worksheet / page break

I have a long 2 column worksheet which does not fit on one page. How can I get it to split (or wrap) to start at the top of the page again.... I have tried having two copies - but because it constantly changes I end up missing cells or doubling up. Thanks Pete

    batch add prefix to classes

thanks - should have looked closer

    batch add prefix to classes

Is there any way to batch rename classes. For example I have a survey file, and I want to add a "S-" to the beginning of all the classes. Thanks
  8. We use Export Batch PDF when we create our drawings, exporting each sheet as a separate file... This is great as it exports the sheet using a file name that is the same as the Sheet Layer. We then edit the file name in Windows Explorer to add "REV X" to the end to indicate the revision number. Does anyone know how (or if it is possible to add the current Revision number to the file name)using a script or something. Thanks Peter
  9. The past day or so the curser and the pointer are not aligned.... ie the mouse arrow is about 5mm (on screen) above the cursor cross hair. I had a similar problem once before in sketch-up and the solution was to turn of OpenGL hardware accelleration. Can you do a similar thing in vectorworks? VW2009

    Cursor and Pointer not aligned

I'm still having this problem... I might try and re-install.
  11. What is the best way to import an Revit file into VW... hopefully so I can use it as a 3d model. Building is a 5 storey commercial building. We are using VW12.5. Thanks Pete

    Window menu functions not working...

Any resolution on this issue - I have the same problem - using VW 12.5.2 on XP pro. Also can't open any worksheets.

    Plot Date and Time Stamp

Is there any way to have the date and time of the plotted drawing appear on the title block? ie. a field that automatically updates. Pete

    Moving and selecting

The pt to pt move and copy from vectordepot.com is something that saves alot of rsi and dragging across the screen... also the only way to move by reference in the quickest number of strokes. It is so simple and useful, and such a common tool in almost every other cad package it is amazing it has not been included in the standard package
  15. Can someone please explain the usefulness of viewport annotations. Why would you just not put the notes and dimensions on the model layer, or at least notes on the sheet layer.

    Project Setup

We are currently working on a large project, both in area and number of levels, and I am just contemplating the most efficient way in which to setup the project files to enable a team of four to work on the drawings. My current thoughts are: Create the following files - Site base plan.mcd - Site Grid plan.mcd - Building 1.mcd with layers for the each of the two levels and roof - Building 1 sections and elevations - Building 2 (a 6 storey building so create a separate file for each level. - Building 2 sections and elevations - Library.mcd - containing symbols of standard details I workgroup reference the grid and library into every file and site plan where requried. I use separate sheet layers for each drawing to be printed. With notes and dimensions as annotations within the viewport. I have heard of people creating a separate drawing file where all plans could be referenced to this file, and printing / title block data, and document issue sheets created from this file. Any thoughts, I would like to hear how others do it. Pete VW12 OzCAD

    Project Setup

One of the main things I want to utilise is the issue manager and batch printer, which I have found to be very useful for small projects where I have the whole project in one file. But spliting it up for multiple users makes this tool not as useful. Any ideas?

    Crash on opening

Using Vectworks 12 on a PC with XP Pro. We are having problems with vectorworks all of sudden crashing when opening for no apparent reason. At first I thought it may have just been a problem with that PC. But now it has started doing in on my laptop. The only way we have resolved it was to re-install the program and delete all files from the local settings folder. The following message is in the error report. When I send the report to Microsoft, they say it is a problem with quicktime, however I cannot upgrade to the latest version as Vectorworks will not work. AppName: vectorworks.exe AppVer: 12.0.0.49891 ModName: quicktime.qts ModVer: 7.0.2.120 Offset: 000fb7c1 Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks Pete
  19. We have recently upgraded to Acrobat 7.0. We have done a drawing that has a number of pattern fills. The drawings have been printed using both Acrobat 7.0 and Acrobat 6.0 When viewed and printed from Acrobat 7.0 it looks exactly the same as on the screen, and how we print out. When viewed in Acrobat 6.0 the dominant colour is all that is visible. IE a pattern comprising yellow and light orange on screen appears as a soft yellow, in Acrobat 6.0 as a stripy yellow. Is there any way to fix it so it views the same in Acrobat 6.0 and 7.0. Pete

    Printing With VW12

I have the same problem.... I have a Canon s4500. One of two things happen. 1. WHen I setup the page setup in the sheet layer I get the same problem, and when I select print - nothing happens, it does not spool - just goes back to the working environment. 2. When I do not change the page setup in the sheet layer, and just select the cannon printer from the Print Dialog. Then it tries to print 4 pages instead of one. But there is nothing on the 4 pages. Currently I print to PDF and print from there, but would be better if I could print direct to printer.
