Hi, I know this is an older post, but if the occurrence might be because the original block in Autocad was a Dynamic Block? From my experience, I believe dynamic blocks convert over to groups instead of the block converting to a symbol with a name. A good way to verify might be to check other blocks in the Autocad drawing (or create a simple new block) and see how if that converts to a Vectorworks symbol. Let me know how it goes!
