Jumping into this a few years later. I'm looking to do a similar thing for my office. We like to draw with colours to visualise the class in which we are drawing, however most of the classes will be plotted in black, sometimes with just one or two classes in colour. I'm considering using data visualisation to achieve this. The attributes panel will display the intended plot finish by class, however the colour on the design layers can be controlled with a data visualisation. Has anyone tried this before or does anyone see any issues with this? Thank you!

@Boh Thank you for your description of how you use the workgroup to share resources. I'm setting up a workgroup for my office to standardise and collate the office resources. Do you think saving standard classes and layers within a template would work? I imagine a template will need some classes in order for them to be drawn in the first instance? Thanks!
