  1. Hi Jeff, Thanks very much for your update - that sounds like exactly what I also want to achieve. Sorry to ask, but could you please explain how you managed to achieve this & successfully play with class overrides? I can't seem to work it out. I tried to play with class overrides when setting up a view port but the only thing I could change was the visibility as in on / off or greyed out. There is something in the organisation menu about class visabilities and overrides too, but it wasn't editable. Thanks very much, Naomi.
  2. Hi Jena, Thanks, but toggling the screen between colour & b/w isn't an option. I tried this before and the results looked horrid (see attached). I've also tried publishing to B/W PDFs which were ok but not ideal. Thanks anyway. Basically I'm thinking there must be a way to do whatever you've done in AutoCAD in VWs too. Sure enough, I went to the VWs 'Design Day' (here in the UK) yesterday and managed to ask someone about this. Apparently there is a setting to look out for regarding class visabilities, when setting up a view port. It can filter the appearance of classes through the VP/for printing, like in AutoCAD. Once I figure it out I will update the forum. Naomi. 🙂
  3. Hi Boh, Thanks - i will look into adjusting the viewport overrides. Yes, I do come from an AutoCAD background. I know that originally the colours were meant to indicate specific line weights in ACAD. That may be a hang up from a bygone CAD age, but I personally do find it very useful. Visually its much easier to have different objects coloured differently (colour coded if you will) when looking at them in model space / design layers, when on screen, but I wouldn't necessarily want them to print that way. Our design drawings get printed & issued in Blk/Wt. I also experimented with going to Document preferences > Black & White only. The result looked bad - quite frankly! Half my filled in polygons disappeared. I have attached screen shots so you can see the difference. Thanks.
  4. Hi there. Thanks, but I don't want the file to display as B/W. I want everything on screen to be in colour so I can clearly distinguish between classes, as I would have in AutoCAD. I just want to make sure they print in B/W or grey scale.
  5. Hi there. Thanks but yes I've seen that & didn't find it very clear. I'm pretty new to VWs by the way. 1) I've heard of 'class overrides' to do this but found nothing to help me figure out how to set them. 2) I tried the 'Publish' option which worked, but this doesn't seem to allow me to use greyscales if I wanted to. Thanks, Naomi.
  6. Hi Everyone, Is there a way to set class colours to print as greyscale / black and white, similar to how you can do so in AutoCAD? There must be a way. I know there is a setting to display the file objects to the layer colours to make it look black and white when needed but this is not a solution, more of an awkward work around in my opinion. Many Thanks, Naomi.

  8. Hi everyone. I have been trying to add or subtract from various solids and extrusions. I'm finding that depending on the type of object they will not union or subtract. If for example; I want to union (add solid) a generic solid or extrusion to a solid addition or solid subtraction, the Model> Add Solids / Subtract Solids... will be greyed out and I cannot run the command. I have a 3D AutoCAD background, so in my previous experience you could union most types of solids fairly easily in AutoCAD. This either is not the case in VWs or I just don't know the correct procedure. Can you only run certain boolean commands on certain types of solids / extrusions? This is quite frustrating as I am new to VWs & know I would not have this issue in AutoCAD 3D. Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks, Naomi.

  10. I'm having a similar problem with this tool and, no Jonathan; buying a $75 dollar manual isn't a helpful suggestion! lol I can't select the appropriate 3D polygon I want to push / pull, in this mode, when the solids to subtract from / add to are also selected. Holding down the Alt button does absolutely nothing. Could someone please suggest a 'step by step' method to do this so I can check whether I'm doing something wrong or if there is a bug in the program. Thanks.
  11. Hi everyone. I've just opened my VW model file. Went straight to a 3D view of my ground floor objects. The external walls to my house are invisible until the mouse cursor hovers over them (see screenshots). They become visible like the rest of my model objects if I untick 'unified view' but then the 3D views of the house don't rotate together when looking around in my model space. Layers and Classes are all set to 'show/snap/modify others.' This wasn't happening last thing yesterday when I last opened the file. I literally just opened it now & didn't change any settings, yet suddenly there is this visibility issue. Any suggestions? Thanks 🙂
  12. Thanks for that. I unticked 'only on active layer' under 'Display screen objects' as you recommended. This didn't help so I went through the other checks and found the culprit - I had 'show only layers belonging to stories' ticked. I don't have stories set up yet so this was why. Thanks! 🙂
  13. Hi everyone, I want my 'unified view' tool to show all layers and classes when switched on. I have all layers (and classes) set to 'show/snap/modify others' and the layer scale is 1:1 for all layers. I want all layers to be visible / greyed out even if they are inactive, so I can see the entire building. At the moment the only layer objects I can make visible are those on the active layer only. If I want to see each floor level of my house I must click through layer by layer at a time, making each layer the active one in order to see that floor. I'm new to VWs so expect it to be something quite simple. Thanks for your help! :)
