  1. i have a sheet layer with a viewport that is referencing a design layer with a viewport on it. i have some sprinkler pipes that i want to appear dashed on the sheet layer. even though they appear that way when i look at the viewport on the design layer, they still show as solid line on the sheet layer. i have tried changing the class attributes, but that does not work. any other suggestions?

  2. here's some additional info. our version of 2008 was purchased after the issue of SP1, and we have not upgraded to SP2 yet. the schedule was created using the 'create report' menu. again, the only change to the worksheet, besides fonts and column widths, was to the search criteria to look at only one layer...

    hello,

i have a 2008 file of a 2 story building. i have set up 2 door schedules, one for each floor. i have used the out of the box door schedule and modified the search criteria to only each floor:

    =DATABASE(((L='Mod-Floor-1') & (R IN ['Door']) & ('Door'.'OnSched'=TRUE)))

what is happening is that when i close the schedule there are many blank row and the other rows are indicating all 2nd floor doors. when i reopen the schedule and recalculate, it appears fine. but when i close it again, it reverts to the corrupted reading. any thoughts anyone...?

thanks and have a good holiday.

  5. hi- looks like the id tool has issues in 2008. in the sheet layers it does not do anything. in the design layers it creates huge boxes around the numbers- seems to take on the nearest area polygon. in both cases the preferences dialog box is completely blank...

  6. we have discovered a similar problem that effects files begun in 12.5 and continued in 2008. our callout key note boxes become quite long and the only way to shorten them is to manually drag each one. entering a different width dimension only makes them disappear, as well as the keynote text object. in a call to tech support last week, they mentioned that they are aware of the issue and will have a patch ready for download 'very soon'. we have not had any problems with creating new keynotes, but they will only work in design layers, not sheet layers (they disappear once you type and hit enter). very curious...

  7. sometimes you have to take some artistic license. white wall in reality might look better with a slight texture (stucco) or color (cream, gray) rendered on the screen. or sometimes i do the complete opposite- red walls just to make it completely contrasting...

  8. since you have multiple levels, i suggest that you pick one of the stacks and use it for your model setup. any other areas that deviate from the stack, can be adjusted individually to comply with your design. you can do this by having another set of layers, or by adjusted the delta z for those areas in the object info pallette. hope this helps...

  9. i suggest that many of these can be drawn as walls w/either solid fills, hatches or cavities. the classes will control the line weights for simple lines, but you can create wall types to graphically look like the other ones. the 'impassable road' and the railroad are a bit tricky- maybe you can create a script fo those...

  10. z is the level that you want the layer to be on. for example, the first floor is 0 (z=0'-0"), and the second floor is 9' above that (z=9'-0"), etc. delta z is the thickness of that layer. so the first floor should be 9' and the second floor 8' (if your ceiling height is 8'). what i find useful is to draw a section throught your house, by hand, and sketch out the height of all the levels. floors are not important in a model unless you will be doing interior views or cutting hot sections.

have you reviewed the user's guide?

  11. you should really check for the tutorials for this stuff- it will greatly help you out and you will quickly gain confidence. VW is very intuitive so just image that layers are the floors of you house and try to logically go from there.....

  12. the approach i take is similar. what i do is setup a seperate file for all my as-built work. in this way i can always have the latest survey information for the existing structure that is separate from the new, i can model the existing cleanly, and control any demolition aspects quite effeciently. i also use stationary files for this work where i have modified vw's classes to clearly indicate whet is existing. for example, Door-Exst, Window-Exst, Wall-Exst. i like to be able to control the appearance of the existing stuff this way. i also modify the layer names such as Mod-Floor-1E. this file is also good as a stand alone for doing area calculations, facility management tasks, and issue for any consultants.

then i creat a new file that will be where i draw all the proposed stuff. i simply wg ref the required layers from the referenced survey file into the propsed target file. i have found it to be the simplest way to organize existing and new drawings. i hope this helps...
