I have just upgraded from VW to VW Architect and Renderworks and I have been having a few problems:

The pc keeps crashing but I have just added the SP for windows and so hopefully that will resolve that one.

On opening existing 11.00 files a Font Mapping comes up requesting replacing Geneva with Ariel. I did replace but that crashed the pc pre SP installed and so I am currently just cancelling the message, but it still pos up every time I open an existing file. What should I do?

Also, I have been trying the wall to roof tool [this was one of the main reasons for upgrading] but the wall s are going all over the place in 3D view, seem to be clicking to either the tops or bottoms of adjoining walls and are so triangular in elevation. I attach a file as it will be much easier to view.

    Look forward to your help.

  2. Perhaps I need to install the NNA Service Pack?

However,am not clear on the following NNA instructions though:

If you are currently using a version of VectorWorks prior to 11.5.0, you must first install 11.5.0 before using this updater.

As I am still running 11.01, should I first uninstall this before installing the SP with the 11.5 installed or do I uninstall the 11.5 before installing the SP or should I uninstall both the 11.01 and the 11.5, install the SP and then install only the 11.5?

  3. Been having trouble installing Architect and Renderworks 11.5 windows version [an upgrade from VW 11.00]

Well I have managed to install the software and I think QuickTime has been installed. I could not install QT and so I deleted the installed version before installing the version that comes with VW. However, the following message came up:

    Easyshare

This QT application cannot respond to the Quit request. It may be busy, waiting for a response from you, or it may have stopped executing.

I clicked Terminate and QT and VW completed installation but the error messages -2003 and MIME types error -20558 came up.

I have been using VW today but it keeps crashing, I do not whether this is to do with QT or some inherent problem with 11.5 as reported on the NNA web site.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  4. Thanks for all your help.

I will try your advice again. The problem before was north keep reverting to the top of the page and the sun always came from the north rather than the south.......but I must of got it wrong and will try your hints.

I hope to upgrage to Architect and Renderworks soon.....just waiting from some invoices to come in and the dust to settle on the 11.5 issues.

I have read your comments a number of times....but I still can not see how you can import and open a pdf file or save a VW file as a pdf file within Vectorworks. It is not described in the manuel and the only image files are gif, jpg, tif and bmp. The whole simple purpose of this thread, as I understand it, was to wish that NNA would add this facility to VW.

I am not going to enter a personnel battle with you, but all my previous comments are valid and have an equal right to be placed on the board. If I did not like VW I wouldn't be using it. I just want to learn more on how to use it and improve it, which I would of thought most users want to do.

Again, thanks for your useful advice. I will give it a go. Just to clarify, so you use two sun lights? That gets over my problem of sun from the north and not the south - just have 2 suns? I suppose I will not get the shadows until I upgrade to RW though?

Thanks for enlightening me.......but rather then spending your time criticising perhaps it would be more helpful if you can describe how you can actually send a VW file in pdf format rather than jpg as you claim you can.

As Kevin rightly points out jpf is not as good quality as pdf and also is a bigger file size for emailing.

Remember that this is a wish list section and not a complement list section and so I am certainly not going to waste my time describing how wonderful VW is!

Unlike Alan, I do not claim to be a VW expert, but I certainly know more than most and I use this site to learn more and complain when things do not work - which I understand to be the whole purpose of the site - a techboard and not a loveboard!

  8. Yes but the sun sill shines from the north rather than the south!

And resetting the brightness in the object info pallette has no effect - the elevation facing south is still black which looks awful, especially when the south facing elevation in the northern hemisphere should be the lightest!

I wish I could just turn it off, but you can not.

Thanks but I am still on 11.1 and there must be a way of controlling the sunlight better or just turning it off.

I am still waiting for the UK distributor to send me the 11.5 disc, although I am some what reluctant to upgrade until NNA have sorted all the problems reported on this site out.

  10. I am finding that the sunlight options in VW Standard are pretty useless and I need to get Architect and RW to make any impact.

But then you can not turn off the sunlight and it sill affects the viewports which appear dark. I tried turning off the light in the light command, tried adjusting the light level, tried turning off the class / layer light is in, tried tried delateing the light symbol, etc.

    Any suggestions would be apprciated?

  11. It woould also be good to be able to add / extend the railing onto the landings. Also have the option to add solid below the stairs as a mass, especially handy in external step situations. Also I think the way it works out no. of risers should be changed as it would be better for the riser ht to be automatically worked out from the floor to floor ht. and no. of risers required and then adjust accordingly.

  12. But you can not use hatch and also pattern / texture as they look different in different views, with the lines going in the wrong direction.

So my elevations still look better drawn in 2D and not 3D, which is a disappointment.
