  1. Thanks Allen I utilize a similar work method when I get closer to producing my final set of CDs. I am wondering if there is a way to set up a model so that when I have several design ideas I am presenting to a client it can all be done with the least amount of fuss.
  2. I often have remodel projects and I am curious how others organize their models so that you can have existing conditions, and new conditions work together in the same model. I find that if I try to keep all new and existing on one layer utilizing classes to turn on and off walls to be removed, the remaining walls do not render or look graphically correct. I put all the existing information on one layer and duplicate it, the file gets very large and modifications are not as seamless as I would like. all comments welcome Thanks Chris
  3. Hi I am exporting a site plan for an engineer but when I export the sheet ant then check it in Auto cad the design layer is at one scale and the 2D annotations in the viewport are at another. How can i get them to all be the same in model space and paper space. Thanks Chris

    PDF HELP!

Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? When I have my drawings printed, the 3d door and window tags from the opposite side of the structure are coming through. (see attachment) This only is on the printed version, they don't appear on the pdf on my computer. What the heck! Chris
  7. Thanks Wes Although, the function above didn't get it quite right i found that this did. =IF((Window.Transom)=FALSE,'-',(Window.Spring))
  8. Wes Thanks, but i tried this and it gives me the springer of all the windows, in this case, even the ones without transoms.
  9. Hi How do I get the height and width of a window or door transom to show on my schedule? Thanks
  10. Ahhh yes thanks, that is so simple. Sometimes I get caught up in getting the magic of VW to do everything I stop looking for the alternative and sometimes simple solutions. Regards Chris
  11. HI I am still trying to get my framing to generate a materials take-off worksheet. I am not using the framing tool because The spread sheet that is generated by the tool is not linked to my framing so that when I add or delete the framing the worksheet does not get modified. It is odd that this sheet does not work off a database header and criteria. I am trying to get the count and lengths for my dimensional framing. How can I get the length of each stud. I have tried this, =('FramingMember'.'LineLengthReal') but with no results. thanks c
  12. Hi take a look at this Webinar. The host goes through how to add information to doors and create tags that may help you create a work around. Advanced Worksheet Techniques with Vectorworks 2014 (Part 1) Presented by Michael Klaers, Designer at The Small Group https://serviceselect.vectorworks.net/training/webinars/tips-by-guest-presenters-and-vectorworks-power-users/2014/index/?
  13. So was not able to figure out exactly what was going on but I did narrow it down to wall styles. I created another file with a few new walls. the wall style i created for the original design had the error but a new wall didn't so I just replace the walls with the new in the old file, if that makes sense. I am still not getting what i want or what is even consistent is from one tool to the next. I have created a 2x6 wall 24" oc with TJI for the second floor deck framing. What I want is a 2x6 wall that the sheathing extends to cover the rim and the framing members to be 5 1/2". What i get is a framing wall that has 2x4 studs (regardless of how I set the options) and a wall that does not off set from the top. I have attached two images one of what I want and one of what i get. any help would be greatly appreciated
  14. Hi I am using the wall framer tool and when it creates and framed wall the are offset to the outside of the original. Is there a setting that I am missing. I have also top offset the structural component (9'0") in my wall so the sheathing will run past my rim joist, but the framer is ignoring this and is creating walls to the full height (10'0"). any ideas?
  15. thanks ill give that a try. I was just using, =length
  16. Hi One of the new feature for VW 2015 is that it will give accurate length information for rafters. As you can see in the images attached the length and span are still indicating different measurements then the actual dimensions. How do I get accurate numbers for my material take offs. This would be very helpful cost tracking and pricing out my project. thanks
  17. thanks Wes I thought that might be the case, but since we are still in DD phase i dont want to ungroup the roof object just yet, I think I can add windows to the wall and just not have them show up on the schedule. Just wondering if there was someone with a clever work around.
  18. Hi I want to show my dormer windows but on the second floor plan. Right now the dormers are on the roof layer and don't show in plan. Any help would be great. (see images attached) Thanks
  19. Hi Mike thanks for the help. so far I have not found any obvious class conflicts. c
  20. the glazing in some of my windows and dormers keep changing their glazing texture from clear to a wood texture. I can fix it but only temporarily. This is what happens: 1) I will render a perspective and notice some of the windows look like the have been boarded up with plywood. 2) I open the window settings/classes, the window glazing is already set to clear. 3) I re-click on the clear texture class again. 4) go back to my model, the glass is now clear again. 5) after working on the project for a while (not messing with textures) I do a perspective rendering and the same windows have a wood texture again. What the heck any ideas?
  21. Hi Yes I read those earlier and they only reference classes, which works fine, I am trying to get sheets to be edited and generated.
  22. I have asked this question before but with no response so ill try again. When using the standard naming tool I don't get any names for the layers or sheets. In theory this sounds like it could be useful but so far i can only get the auto classing to work. Does anyone use this tool? if so how do you get the standard names to appear when creating new layers or sheets? all the information i have seen has only used the classing as an example with no information or reference to the layers and sheets. thanks Chris
  23. Hi this post helped In the Attributes pane of the Advanced Section Properties dialog box set the Section Plane options to: - Separate Cross Sections; and - Use Attributes of Original Objects.
  24. Hi Joe I too am having the same problem and hopefully someone will respond to your question and helps us both. Chris
