  1. So I bought a new iMac. I need to move or copy VW2015 to it from my macbook. I believe my license will allow me to keep a copy on the macbook as I will use it in the field when not in office. One user only. Do I have to start from my 2013 disks or can I download from somewhere?
  2. Josh, We are curious...can we see the elevation you have in mind.
  3. Figured it out. It was a layer issue. All working now.
  4. It works to draw a few crossing lines, then implement the poly tool. It is just the existing geometry. I quit VW and restarted, but still does not work. It is strange because a day or so ago I had used the same tool on same drawing and was able to hatch for my siding. Now I am just overlaying color.
  5. The 2d polygon tool - inner boundary mode not working. Odd behavior, it works on some parts of a drawing but not others. I have 2d bldg ext. elevation that I am applying color & hatch to. It appears that all 2d linework is closing so that the poly tool should work. I click in the area - the paint bucket is there but does nothing, not even the rainbow wheel.
  6. Thanks Tim. So is that typical practice to place dims in the SL VP? What happens when you revise the plan and move objects?
  7. Edward, When you flip your doors watch to see what happens to the ID Tag. If I flip my doors the tag will flip, but sometimes the text is backwards or upside down. Curious if it happens to you.
  8. Alan you are correct. Different design layers. I did not know that dimensions would behave this way. I have partial basement so there is a full height conc wall. That wall needs to be visible on basement floor plan, and also on foundation plan. So I'm trying to figure out which layer is best suited for it. Some walls are full height and some are not. Perhaps I need to class them differently and put on foundation layer then I can make invisible the ones not needed in basement floor plan view. Anyway, thanks for the info.
  9. A strange thing started happening. I am placing dimensions for foundation plan. When I cross a wall with dimension the line is hidden by the wall. It reappears on other side of wall. I sent the wall to the back and dimension to the front but no change. Using the line tool, the same also happens.
  10. I created a new text style 'courier 8'. Inserted text, = all okay. Used the callout tool and the same text style = G R E E N text. Went to the resource browser and edited the text style because it indeed was green. Now it is working. But would really like to know how it picked up the green in the first place.
  11. So there is no apparent way of modifying the text style. When I use the text tool and use this particular text style it is black, it is only when used with the callout tool. How does it get an attribute to begin with? There is no option in text format. As a complaint: I hate having to use several moves and clicks to set the font, then go back to the menu to set the size. Is there a way this could be one maneuver? ...I know....format a text style and be done with it...... .... unless your text is green!
  12. Hey, where can I find a fire hydrant for VW?
  13. Yes it has a Text Style assigned. If I change the text style the color of text changes. But then it is not the style I want. But there is not place in Format Text to set a color. So I don't understand how this happened.
  14. through some accidental keystrokes I have entered the twilight zone or some other weird mode that I cannot get out of. Below my pointer is a floating data bar that won't go away. Additionally I cannot delete objects on screen and all of the menu items are grey. I can select tools from tool bar.
  15. Why? Why is the color of the text green? When the class is set to black. The current settings obviously are set to by class and are black. The callout that is black I had to go to class settings and change color to anything and then back to black to get it to change. So there must be some other place that settings are affected. Is there an override hiding someplace? This is only happening in this file.
  16. Thanks all for the suggestions. Always appreciated.
  17. Okay, that does help. I've put the roof on its own layer and I have put it on the same layer as floor below. But I think I prefer that it have its own layer. Whe you have different plate heights does VW pick that info up ?
  18. This is the roof plan I wanted. I deleted what I had done before and did it over. The second time it worked. Question: In edit roof settings, what is the 'Bearing Height' a reference to? The floor immediately below the roof or what. If so, why in layer settings can you set the elevation for a roof? There are so many dang places to input a wall height, a layer elevation a story height a bearing height.... My hat is off to those of you that have figured it all out and can produce nice elevations and sections.
  19. Is there a limit to how many objects a symbol can contain. I have a floor plan layout that I want copies of in the same file (long story) When I edit the original, then the copies will update. I know it is not common to make a floor plan a symbol but for this particular task it should work. But when I select the objects and 'create symbol' the plan changes to just a few lines. 95% of the content disappears. The symbol is the 5% of objects that remain. So I made a symbol of just a few objects and it worked just fine. So I tried to make a symbol of all the objects in the plan and same result; just a few lines.
  20. I have a fairly simple shaped floor plan that I tried applying the AEC>create roof command to and received the warning that the geometry was too complex. So I divided the roof into 2 parts by creating 2 rectangles and then generated a roof over each one. Is it possible to merge the two roofs?
  21. Is there a shortcut to collapse all in the RB? Key combo or otherwise?
