  1. I'v never had any problem with importing dxf/dwg files until now. Everthing imported fine except the dimensions. They've lost their spacing? Is there something I can do or has the file not been exported properly? I'm using Vectorworks 11 on a iMac G5 Ed
  2. Since I updated to the latest version 11.5, I get horizontal and vertical dashed lines extending from every loci. Is there some way of turning them off?
  3. Yes I did notice this. Just more lines to remove. Is this necessary?
  4. John, rather than do what was suggested at the Adobe site I bought a new font and made sure it was TrueType and not a "foreign" font that gets put in the bottom group. So far I have not had any more problems, although every time I go to files that have the problem fonts I have to replace them with the new font. Good luck Ed
  5. I located the problem, the fonts that won't stay put are all grouped at the end of the list of fonts. There is no problem with the fonts above this group. Adobe Support Knowledgebase site (www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/324032.html) addresses this issue of a group of fonts at the end of a list. Solution: Change each font's WritingScript to Roman. Thanks and good luck. Ed
  6. Thanks Travis, I set my defaults this way now and I proceeded to do it several more times with the same results. The default font keeps going to Lucida Grande. When I select the dimension tool it retains the Graphite font but when I select the text tool my font changes in the OIP before typing anything. Thanks Brendan, the eydropper tool makes the "JOB" of changing the font quicker. But why do I have to do this whole thingy in the first place? Still puzzled
  7. Whenever I use the text tool, either for creating text or editing text the font changes from my choosen font Graphite to Lucida Grande. (Both True Type fonts) When I create dimensions or use any other tool that uses fonts there's no problem. What do I do? Is there someplace that I can set a default font?
  8. When I go to a design layer from a viewport my layer changes from what ever to 1:1. Also when I change from an active class only to show all classes the layer changes scale to 1:1. Is there something turned on or off that I'm missing? This is quite a nuisance. Any suggestions?
  9. After reinstalling Acrobat 6.0.0 I discovered that it worked but the 6.0.2 update was giving me the no printing problem. I'm still not clear on the best way to create a .pdf from a .vwa file. Do I print/save to .pdf or save as .eps and distill to .pdf file. The later gives me a much smaller file but requires an extra step. Any suggestions? Can a script be written to accomplish this with the touch of one button?
  10. Hi Peter. I do make a copy of the original to export from. I was just reading about creating .pdf files in my Acrobat 6 manual, and they recommend saving the file as a .eps and then with Acrobat Distiller create the .pdf. Possibly going directly to a .pdf from .vwa is too much of a strain for my computer memory wise and it leaves a trail of havoc. Still puzzled. I also wasn't able to print a document I created in Adobe Illustrator and saved as a .pdf. Adobe troubleshooting also said there may not be enough memory and to turn off all other applications. I reinstalled Adobe Acrobat 6 Pro to see if things will get better. Maybe something got corrupted, since this has just recently been a problem. 11. Hi Peter. The original file was created in version 10 and converted to 11.
  12. I just changed from my preffered Open Type "Tekto Pro Cond." to a True Type font "City Blueprint" to avoid missalignment issues. I then printed a file to a .pdf to have printed at a service bureau. That came out just fine, but when I reopened the original .vwa file all the Drawing Labels and Elevation Markers font had been changed to Futura Book. What's going on with these markers? Is there only one font that will work with them? I check my Font Mapping in preferences and it says to replace Futura Book with City Blueprint, but yet it's doing just the opposite. What gives? 13. Thanks for the bad news Peter. At least I can stop beating a my dead horse. Are you familiar with any True Type fonts that are like Tekton (Open Type) ? It's the closest to Architectitural hand lettering I've seen. Thanks again Peter p.s. I'm writing you from Coos Bay , on my way back from a long needed vacation in Canada and the San Juan Islands. Ed
  14. The type is off center when I use Open type with Drawing Labels and Elevation Benchmarks, but not with True Type fonts. I prefer to use the Open Type fonts that I've used for years, is there a way to correct this? I've looked at the possibility of rewriting the script (which I've never done before). I went to the Organize/Vector Script Plug-in Editor/Drawing Label only to find that plug-in is locked and cannot be edited. I'm really not interested at this time to become a programmer, but it really annoys me that I have to either go to a True Type font or live with my markers being off center. Any suggestions? 15. Hi Peter, the viewport that was resized on the cover sheet is still there since I found it way off in space, but now I've lost the only viewport that I had left and one other that had gone missing is back. Other than turning off layers and classes on other design layers, I have not been working on the cover sheet. Maybe as I continue working on the rest of the project they'll all come home eventually. These viewports I created from their design layers. I have since rebuilt the site plan sheet viewport that went missing. I created it from the sheet layer not the design layers so that the "site landscape" and "site civil" would be aligned in the viewport. Larry, the two sheets with missing viewports were finished and ready to print. None of the design layers I was working on were related to any of the information on those two sheets except the overall class and layer visibility had been adjusted. My understanding is the viewports hold on to their own layer and class visibility and what I do elsewhere should not effect the viewports. Another issue I had that may be related, while on a design layer made up with various landscape classes (L-deck, L-fence etc) and a S-slab class. When I went to this layer the landscape class objects were not visible, only the slab class object. I checked and all the classes were set to visible. I then proceeded to zoom out until I got to 10% then all the classes were visible. I repeated many times zooming in and out with the same results. I don't remember what I did. I may have gone on to work on something else, turn off the computer or what, but the next time I went to that design layer everything was OK. This is what is leading me to think I may be experiencing a memory or compatibility issue. I noticed that with the Industrial series and renderwork with gobo textures requires 2GBs. My system is maxed out at 1GB. I have since reinstalled 11.0.1 without loading the gobo textures, since I'm not using them at this point, to see if it will make any difference with the memory. Maybe I need to update my OS from 10.3 to 10.3.5? (Compatibility issues??) Thanks guys for your comments. 16. I've lost 4 Viewports. One viewport on the site plan sheet and two on the cover sheet. The fourth one on the cover sheet (which I managed to find, had changed scale to 1:1 and lost its cropping and annotation. I'm concerned that any further work might be lost and will lose time and money and clients etc!! Has anyone else experienced this? Is it memory or some kind of compatibility problem? This happened since I upgraded to 11.0.1. I'm using Mac OSX (just updated to 10.3) PowerBook G4 with 1MB L3 cache and 1 GB SDRAM. Vectorworks Ind Collection 11.0.1/Renderworks Ed Rose Rosebud Studios
  17. Peter, my document layers are arranged in the stacking order that should allow the landscape layer to obscure the civil layer and the architect layer to obscure the two lower layers. Could it be the way I am rendering the viewport (final shading) that's allowing the two bottom layers to show through the top layer? Andrew, if I create multiple viewports will the top viewport block the lower viewports completely? Ed
  18. Peter, There are no filled layers beneath the top layer only the roofs in the top layer are filled but topo lines from bottom layer still show through the roof. I only rendered the image to see if it would obsure the detail below. Still puzzled. I've produced a duplicate file and used multiple viewports as Andrew suggested and it worked. Only concern is viewports get misaligned accidently. It's a bit tricky to lock the viewports and arrange the proper stacking order when you have to update each viewport. Thanks for the support. Ed Rose
  19. I've drawn my site plan using only one viewport with three layers choosen (Site civil, landscape and architect). I don't seem to have any control over which layer is on top. I would like the architect layer to coverup the topo lines on the civil layer for example. Would I be better off having a viewport for each layer? Will I be able to align the viewports and put the architect viewport on top? Ed Rose Rosebud Studios
  20. On simple residential remodels I usually set up a sheet for all the framing info i.e. floor framing and roof framing. I use callouts with a Keynote Legend for each detail. Now with the use of viewports it's easier to crop into the part of the house being modified and place them onto a framing sheet, but it appears that I can have only one Keynote Legend per layer and the sheets only have one layer active. I'm looking for a way that I can have more than one Legend on a sheet so my callouts for flr frmg don't have to be shared with the rf frmg callouts. Any thoughts would be appreciated Ed Rose Residential Designer The Sea Ranch
  21. Thanks Peter, I'll consider that . I created a layer for my Title block and than made a viewport for it. Either way it seems that I will have to then paste/place the Title block onto every SHEET LAYER. Maybe setting up WORKGROUPS of the sheets in a MASTER FILE will save me from setting up for every project. Ed Rose Residential Designer The Sea Ranch, California
  22. Where do I put information that is common to all sheets to be printed, in VWA.v11? This is all the info that used to be on the sheet common layer in previous versions. Ed
  23. I copied the 2D polygons traced from the imported dwg file to a new document, then proceeded to make the 3D polygon contours in the new doc. With only the 2D and 3D polys in the doc I used the Filter 3D polygons command to get simpler polygons. I couldn't tell the any difference between the two layers of 3D polys. I then used the filtered 3D polys to create the site model, again it is taking forever with no results. Ed
  24. I have not been successful in creating a site model. I started with traced (imported dwg file) 2D polygons. Then I made 3D Polygons lines using the 2D Polys to 3D Contours command. this worked fine, but then I proceeded to create a site model from the 3D data and seven hours later I still had no results. How long does it take? I then started over and made 3D Loci from the 2D polygons to use as my source for the site model. The site model was created in an instant, but it wasn't accurate. Is it possible to create site models w/ VWArchitect or do I need VWLandmark? I'm using a Mac w/OS10.2.8 Ed
  25. Yes, Peter I've linked the layers and tried opening different isometric views to see the result of the texturing as I added the textures to the individual "source" layers. I could see the textures fine until I was almost complete with adding textures to the layers. When I viewed the sheet of 4 elevations which were also model views, they never showed the textures. This is what made me think it might be to much memory required to render 4 models at a time. I'm planning on doubling my memory, but if that doesn't work I'll have to abort using RenderWorks completely. Thanks, Peter Ed
