Thanks Katie, I really like the short movies, very helpful.

But I was after feedback from those who have used this new version, how has it performed on the ground so to speak.

A lot of us got burned with the bug filled VW10 so I am wondering if 11 is more reliable from the get go ?

I wish VW would put on a Landscape training specific class somewhere such as Salt Lake. Hummm training, skiing, cheap air fare. Might be able to afford the expensive class

I would appreciate it if you would have a go at this for me tvetter:

I will take that as a yes to my query as to whether line weights can actually be changed.

So that takes us back to the beginning why is it not working for me ?

The symbol I am trying to change is one of the supplied 10.5 vw symbols not something I have created by the way.

Whilst in the edit window I can change the colour the fill etc but not the line thickness which is really the important one.

Is this the right steps ?

I have attempted to change the line weight in a new document to eliminated problem being a specific file problem but again I can not get the line thickness to change.

    1. Am I doing something wrong ?

    2. Can the line thickness of a plant symbol actually be changed ?

    Thanks Viper x

I changed it to 1.02 in the edit window (it showed no effect on the line thickness in the window mind you )> exit symbol > then I checked in the drawing with still no change > and I checked the line thickness of the symbol with the attributes pallette in the drawing and it still read 0.03 > so I printed a section which contained the symbols and the lines have not changed thickness even when printed ?

    Any other suggestions please ?

"In VW Preferences, do you have Zoom Line Thickness check marked?"

Yes, and I tried it with and without it checked with no result.

  7. Always read my journey knowing I am a novice. [smile]

I have gone to the symbol in the plant catalog opened it in the 2d edit window and opened the attributes pallette.

Ok so far I think, I can change the fill colour, I can change the fill type, but when I change the line thickness from a narrow 0.03 to a thick 1.02 for instance nothing happens, it shows the line thickness change in the attributes pallette but it does not effect the symbol, I exit edit symbol but still no change of the symbol in the drawing ?

I have read the reference in the users guide and it follows the same steps.

What am I doing wrong please

  8. So that is what it was about, I received for the first time the message as well and did not know what was going on until I realise :

I run another old computer on a network where we do simple daily taskes like word documents etc, e-mail etc, it has barely the power to run windows 95 much less a program like VW !

So I have had to pull out the connecting cable. [Frown]

This has only ever happened since 10.5

  9. If say all the particular type of plant is on one class, say "Trees" and you want to make the tree symbols ( dozens of them) stand out and do it in one action, in comparison to the other plants on the drawing which are a different class can you change the line thickness in the edit classes box to achieve this ?

I have attempted this but can not get it to work, is this the wrong approach and is there a better way ?

    Thanks

  10. Well, I wandered around trying to find this allusive 00 Plant List but it never showed it's head I am afraid.

So after trying numerous things and looking at other worksheets that did not have the x 2 gene I was none the wiser.

So what the heck I started to mess around and what do you know when I dragged over a couple of those tiny little "sum" biscuits and plonked them on the Height and Width cells - bingo ! the values returned to normal and has stayed that way since [Mad]

What is more maddening is that the old work sheets that never had the x 2 gene don't have the tiny litte "sum" biscuits in their cells - what the hell is going on ! [Mad]

Clearly I am no wiz at this game but I have to say this software is insane at times [Mad]

  11. Could you explain that process further please Robert.

I have brought in a another copy of the worksheet into the drawing from the worksheet in the resources browser but this has the same problem, and I sense this is not what you are suggesting I do ?

If I delete the problem worksheet completely and create a new one and place it in the drawing and do a recalculation will it find all the plants I have already placed on the drawing ?

I have tried to locate "00_Plant lists" using the find on disc in the resources browser and setting the path as "object library" but it can not locate it ?

Is there a way to put back the ,lost "summary" in the current worksheet ?

Bear with someone on a steep learning curve please [Eek!]

I am not trying to give you more work for the sake of it but what are the steps to " bringing in a new plant list from the library" please Robert ?

I have many plants already in the drawing.

    thanks Viper x

  13. Katie, don't move, where is the straight line mode bar button please ?

Yes and I am not very experienced [Eek!]

I just tried the U Key approach and it still flew like a fishing rod ! [Eek!]

I have clicked on the "corner vertex mode" for the ployline tool but the line still curves all over the place, is this the "straight line tool you are talking about "

    Thanks Viper x

  14. Using version 10.5 on xp pro.

When I go to draw a shape for a cluster of plants using the place plant tool how do I stop the line from curving and continuing to curve, I want to draw straight lines to form a box or rectangle of plants but the line won't allow me to de this, it moves like a fly fishing rod !

This was not a problem in other versions.

I am sure it is me but any ideas please

  15. Using version 10.5 on xp pro

When I enter more of a particular plant species that is already in the plant list the height and width values double ?

ie if I place say a line of plants or a single plant in the drawing for the first time the assigned H&W value goes in fine in the worksheet, next time I add more of that species the height and width value doubles each time ?

This has never happened in previous versions

What is going on please ?

But I'm not sure about printing, I usualy work with plotter-cutters, but he seems like a lot of work to print a document!

What can I say but [Eek!] that long journey is fraught with failure surely ? [Eek!]
