  1. thanks both for the tips...really useful re exporting image type i know its differs for all renders but i am trying to find a render setting for viewports that give quality but not take an age to render what do you recommend and i know this is an open ended question
  2. Maybe a video showing dpi rendering and exporting maybe a good thing or is there one out there
  3. Interesting I don't understand the point of rendering at 300 dpi and then exporting at 300 dpi or am I missing a trick
  4. When rendering a viewport I usually set my dpi to 200/300 dependent on the quality when exporting the image file. Say a jpeg it then gives me the option of an export dpi and an image size what's the best way to set these items i like to print for presentation purposes at A3 thanks
  5. I agree sketch up files seem to be the best format but most of the vehicles I need aren't on there website. It still seems a really big and ongoing problem importing other format files into VW i wished they had a separate converter piece of software that could convert such files into manageable and software friendly to allow easier imports into VW. Guess this would be a big ask !
  6. my main problem is that i design exhibitions stands that are mainly to do with cars and i find it very difficult to get 3d files that come into the software without material loss also there are not many models that vectorworks supply i wished there was a way to convery a 3ds model or similar to a vectorworks entourage model that i could make a library for all of the cars that i have
  7. i know that's good but i still have trouble with v17 bringing in file formats that hold the textures correctly why did vw not allow the cd4 models with geometry to be imported into the programme or is this impossible to do i tried to bring in a .3ds but the materials are all over the place imported into form z ok and artlantis
  8. i am trying to import a .cd4 file that i have from turbosquid brings in the textures fine but no model is this correct
  9. i have just done a test render in artlantis to see if the materials will map any better using my render package but seems to have the same slight problems my other problem may be that artlantis do not issue an export plug in from vw 2017 to artlantis 5 which means i will have to still use 2016 as i don't want to upgrade my artlantis package to 6 i do hope this will not be the case........ jim can you cast any light on this please
  10. i think looking at the videos you can only import the textures with the CD4 file or am i wrong ?
  11. just a couple more examples interesting .jpg3 i have added some noise and it shows up on the mapping more i think from a distance this will be acceptable in most renderings but when its close up it will be a problem
  12. seems to be fine but have only tried it with 1 texture test_subdivision.vwx
  13. well this is a fantastic improvement just a simple chair took a minute and then applied a texture maps really well
  14. hi all just trying to get to grips with V17....trying to find out on the C4d texture front if you can indeed import the actual 4d textures to be used on my renders and if so where is the best place to source the textures from thanks phil
  15. thanks mark will give this a go using the crease mode can you control how much of point there is can you do what you have done but then give the peak a slight round? thanks
  16. i have tried this jonathan but i can seem to get the accuracy i require its hard to define what node i am pulling where but i'll keep on trying thanks

  20. i would like to thank peter for his help in solving my problem for a job i have out in peeble beach in aug i really appreciate the time people give up to help people like me and other members in our forum it just goes to show the vectorworks community forum is a fantastic knowledge base and that its a great place to communicate peter i took your advice and plotted the survey inputs as per your instructions and came up with my site model and a draped surface to prove that the ground on the golf course was like a cliff face for the type of construction we wanted to build we have since asked the organisers to move us to another plot which i know want be perfectly flat but at least will give us a chance .... thanks again
