  1. Can anyone recommend a work flow process for this? The following explains what I am trying right now, but if you have a better suggestion, please let me know. At the moment I am trying to follow a similar process that I used at AECOM using autocad: - each detail is drawn in its own file. - each detail is then referenced into a sheet file in model space (so multiple files referenced in) - there was an easy command to click on that referenced file and open the original for editing - Detail titles are done in the sheet file model space - the sheet file paper space holds the title block info and is what gets printed. Trying to replicate this in VW: - each detail is drawn in its own file. (using layers, not classes, because that's what my boss uses, possibly this is complicating matters) - I have a "sheet file" set up ready to reference each detail file into. - I have title block info set up on a sheet layer for this sheet file - now, how do I reference in the detail files? I tried: !. referencing in the detail files using “Layer Import”, but: - it brings in everything, not just the area I want. - all the detail files have the same layers, since they are all from a template, and VW won’t import multiple layers with the same name. 2. referencing in viewports from the detail files, with the “design layer viewports” setting in the referencing dialogue box, and then creating a viewport with the detail file as a source. But - it brings in everything, not just the area I want. - I can’t change the crop to narrow down to the area I want. Is there a way to just reference in a viewport from the original detail file? thanks!
  2. Trying to figure out why, when I use a grey pen colour to get a lighter looking hatch, it turns back to black in a viewport on a sheet layer. I don't have "black/white only" on, nor "use layer colours". I can see the grey in the design layers view. If I give a black line hatched object an opacity, I can see grey in the viewport/sheet layer, but I want to make the hatch itself grey. Ideas?
  3. and, a reboot solved the problem. Nevermind!
  4. Just playing around with default image fills in a blank doc... but can't get the Fill IMage Setting button to activate the dialog box. Any ideas?
  5. I'm having various issues with colour (especially transparent fills)not coming out as expected, either as a PDF viewed on screen or printed. I'm wondering if part of the issue is an RGB vs CYMK profile? Does vw work in RGB or CYMK? Does it export to PDF as RGB or CYMK? There doesn't seem to be a way to select a particular profile. Any suggestions? Thanks,
  6. I'm still interested in understanding more about colour profiles in VW... is it exporting PDFs in RGB or CYMK? Is there a way to set profiles?
  7. I'm confused how to make drop shadows. I'm working at basic basic vw for dummies level. 2D only. How do I apply a drop shadow to something - trees, walls, shrubs, boulders etc. Thanks,
  8. Does it make a difference if it is simply 2D lines and fills? Can those layers be imported to photoshop?
  9. Still new to vectorworks, and not quite at presentation quality rendering, so would like to finish off in photoshop. Is there a way to export the file so it will retain layers when opened in photoshop? I've tried exporting as a PDF with layers, but it flattened when opening in photoshop. Tried eps - all one layer. Thanks!
  10. Hello, Not sure how to word this... Is there a way to select the interior space between multiple polylines and lines to generate a new closed polyline? I seem to remember there was a way to do this in autocad to create a hatch area... Or similar to the magic wand tool in photoshop (different idea than vw's magic wand) Cheers and thank you
  11. Ok thanks Jim. I made it a HUGE long rectangle because I couldn't figure out how to eliminate the gaps that made it appear as a dashed line. I'm sure there is a simpler way to make a double line that appears as solid - do you have any pointers there? Best, Megan
  12. Hi Jim, Thanks! Here it is. The custom file types are centreline and fogline. They are on the layers (yes, I know, layers... its an idiosyncratic neophyte office) S_centreline and S_pavement markings. Best, Megan
  13. Hi, I'm trying out some custom line types, and am now running into an issue when printing. The line types are very simple... I used a very long and narrow rectangle to illustrate the width of road lane striping. They show up fine in the design layer and in viewports on sheet layers. When printing or exporting, they either don't show up at all, or partial/broken lines do, or some lines do but others don't. Any clues? I switched them back to solid lines and they printed fine. Thanks,
  14. HI all, Trying to save my new custom titleblock to the Standard Title blocks file, per this video: http://kbase.vectorworks.net/questions/457/Custom+Title+Block Same issue with read only. I see the additional recommendation to save to a custom folder. How do I tell VW to find my custom titleblock when using the sheet border tool, if it isn't in the standard title block folder? Thanks, Megan
