  1. I put in a Service Select call for help on Wednesday and haven't heard back. This is so weird.

New file, old file any file---wall joining simply doesn't function.

I can drag a wall into another and the auto join function takes over, but that is it.

    Very frustrating.

    Any suggestions?

  2. Keeping this simple--is anyone using the fatter one with 16GB of ram?

If so, with Monterey and VW 2022 is it sufficent to render in a reasonable time and to use TwinMotion?

File sizes maxing out at say 400MB.

More details please. Screen shots/movie might help us figure out what is going on.

What exactly have you tried?  Are you getting any error messages? Are you in the correct mode of the Wall Join Tool (Tee/El/Cross) for the wall configuration you are working on?

    Nah…been doing this since 99.

no error I get the highlighting when clicking but nothing happens.

  4. It simply stopped working at all.

I thought it may have been a corrupt file. Nope.

Brand new fresh file today and same result.

VW 2022 Sp3 using latest Mac OS.

Need a solution as this is untenable.

  5. My primary screen is a 5k iMac 27 and the second is an older 27. This is adequate.

At this point all,I care about is enough horse power to adequately render redshift and use TM.

it seems the economical route may be a new release of a mac mini.

Likely projects maxing at 400 or so MB.

Honestly, right now it is confusing.

  6. For giggles. I opened a 300 mb file and the AM immediately showed a 3.4 mb usage and its stsyed the same when in the process of rendering Redshift of whole model….reference the above system.

  7. Reading through this leaves me shaking my head and wondering 'what the heck to do' concerning a future upgrade. And I thought it was difficult determining the best method for smoking brisket on the offset.

    LOL

    Seriously--sort of---I am running a 2017 iMac 27" 3.4GHz Core i5 with 40GB ram and the Radeon Pro 570 4 GB card.

For the most part it is working fine with VW 2022 running files between say 250 & 350 MB.

Looking forward, I have two goals---Redshift rendering that doesn't take a week when not 'freezing' and the ability to use Twin Motion.

I reckon I will keep reading this thread.

    🙂

  8. Have a look around the FileMaker Pro website. I used it years ago in my building remodeling business, to creat integrated apps for estimating, proposals, contracts, invoices and job cost tracking, etc.

These all in a database form.

The FM communiity is large and many solutions have been built for all kinds of things.

    Worth checking out.

  9. Short version: back in 1999, I began to use VW as a value add for my home building (mostly additions) and remodeling. I got a couple archtectural textbooks and read up. I did all the trades from the foudnation up for many years and can build a house in my head, so that is kinda the way I look at drafting. Most of the work didn't require plans, so I didn't actually do a lot.

Pretty much retired now and upgraded to 2022 Arch/RW and now hyper-focused on getting up to speed and learning much more of what VW can do.

My goal is to make some grocery money with this--I am not in a hurry, as I know I have much to learn--but having a blast.

While learning, I am working to build a portflio. This const set is the result of just designing a house and learning VW as I go.

I would love to hear some 'constructive' 🙂 criticism and advice.

    Thanks folks.

@ParkerJamesWhat you are seeing is definitely not the experience of most.

It is likely that you have some corruption in your User folder. Try quitting VW, dragging your user folder to the desktop and restarting VW. A new user folder will be created. If it runs smoother then  you can copy items you need out of your old user folder over.

If you are using a custom workspace, especially one you have migrated from previous version that could also be part of the problem. Try one of the standard workspaces and see if things are better. If they are, then I suggest you rebuild your workspace using one of the VW2022 stock workspaces as the starting point.

Ask again if you need more information.

I did as suggested in creating a new folder and this seems to have quieted things down.

I will try the first suggestion and get back. I am using a stock workspace--always do.

  12. Yup--2022 newest patch. Intel with 40GB ram. Crashes for no apparent reason at various times.

This is getting old. This morning while annotating a VP.

Most aggravating of all is not being able to select objects in a design view. All kinds of objects. I have to force select and even that doesn't always work.

Hard to establish any kind of workflow like this.

Do you know where the internal origin is in Vectorworks?

    This chap...

It's the centre of the model, where X, Y and Z are 0.

Revit has one.  So does SketchUp.  And so does Rhino.

In order to fully coordinate your Vectorworks model with someone using Revit, first make sure your origin and their origin are in the same place relative to the model itself.

Model = 3D data either solids, NURBS or BIM.  Matters not.  Any 3D data = model.

Yes, I grok. Thank you very much, shorter.

    Very helpful.

Next installment of the VW > Revit discussion...  I feel like Charles Dickens.

ALL MODELS MUST HAVE A COMMON ORIGIN!!!

and by this I mean that all models (and when I say ‘all models’ I mean models from vw, rvt, SKP, 3dm, etc) must be aligned to the same internal origin BEFORE you apply any user origins, project base points or any other applied coordinate system.

if your internal origins are not aligned and are not in the same place relative to the model YOU ARE NOT COORDINATED irrespective of the ‘shared coordinate system’.

In order to do this you must not use the recommended DWG import settings in Vectorworks.  You must manage the process, set you user origin manually, and create a template for the project.

Can you say that in English?

What means 'models' and what means origin in that context?

    🙂

    Hello @PatStanford

yes I have some recommendations and suggestions.

    a good BEP helps.

But the main issue is the Revit user themselves.

if they know what they are doing with Revit and can give and receive IFC, it is fairly straightforward.

like model setup there are rules when it comes to IFC and these should be defined in the BEP.

The reading I did earlier indicates getting up to speed with IFC is a key must do.

I have a lot of work to do.

    🙂
