  1. I am trying to edit the plant style by instance-specifically the plant tag location and tag shoulder angle. In "edit style" I've changed what I think are the settings for those two variables to "by instance" w/ the toggle button on the left. Now those variables are no longer greyed out in the OI palette, which is good, but it still doesn't let me change them. Basically I want to change some of the plant tag settings by instance and not by style and be able to edit in the OI palette-can someone please advise how to do this?
  2. Thanks to you both. I don't use data tags at all-do you have a good link/resource to describe how to use data tags in lieu of plant tags? (I'll also look into the script you suggest, Katarina, though its not for every plant so not sure if that is what I need.) Wish there was a way to simply use the eye dropper tool to match settings or select a bunch of plants to change settings for each one or something equally easy!
  3. Does anyone know how to set up default settings for plant tags? Or, how to copy settings for plants tags from one plant to the next? I can't figure this out and w/ each new plant have to go in and manually enter all plant tag settings which is super time-consuming. I've posted about this before but didn't get any responses, hoping someone else has figured this out!
  4. That worked! Thanks so much Jeff!
  5. When I select the "poly edge space mode" when placing plants it shows a double row for every plant. I've checked older drawings and plant symbols and it doesn't do it there. I think it must be something in my "style" preferences but I can't seem to figure out what it is.
  6. I am having some issues w/ creating plant styles in VW Landmark 2023: 1) When I create my plant, it automatically assigns some component of it to the class "none" even though I've carefully kept to another class such as vegetation-proposed-tree. So, when I turn off the layer "none" part or all of some plants disappear. I've tried editing the 2D graphic but there is no indication that any component is assigned to the "none" class there. 2)I am unable to edit the style on a particular plant on my drawing through the object info palette but I can do this in other older VW drawings. So, I have to go to edit style and change it there which is cumbersome. 3)I can't seem to manually change the tag angle in my drawing, and I can do this in other drawings. I have to go in to edit style and enter an angle which is also cumbersome.
  7. Hi Jeff, Thanks so much for your response. Would you mind walking me thru the steps? I just don’t know how/where to do this when using the “plant list-simple” pre-formatted report. -Rose
  8. Can someone advise how to select the plants for a plant list/schedule (using pre-formatted report plant list-simple)? I am working on a large residential project, & the project is in phases. I’d like to make a list for just the back yard, just the front yard, etc. but the lists just update to include all plants. I know I am missing something. Thank you!
  9. My plant tags show two zeros after the decimal in the plant count. I can't figure out how to take these off. I've checked Document settings, units and set up but there is not an obvious fix there. Thanks, Rose
  10. I am creating landscape areas and in my pdf on my screen they look fine but when I print them they come out almost black. I've intentionally used hatches that are very light-like the dots and diagonal dashes, but they are all like this. My only solution has been to change the opacity to 50% so that the true pattern shows, but unfortunately my text/callouts are then also at 50%. Any ideas of how I can solve this? Thanks! Rose
  11. At this point I am just using 2D so the graphics are the only considerations. Looks like there is no problem w/ having polygons-just not sure if it takes up more memory. Thanks again for your help. Rose
  12. Thanks again, Jim. I did try the split tool but it just breaks the polygon up into smaller polygons. Is there an additional step for splitting from polygon to polyline? I can probably just keep the contours as polygons-just trying to understand the process a little better.
  13. Thanks for your quick reply! I was able to connect the ling segments and then when I used the command Modify>Compose it joined them all into a polygon. I tried to then use Modify>Convert to change to a polyline but it doesn't look like this is an option. So I then deleted the fill from the polygon and changed the line type so it looks like I want it to (single, dashed, joined line) but am I going to get into trouble down the road having all the contour lines as polygons instead of polylines? Is there a way to now change the polygon to a polyline? Thanks, Rose
  14. I have imported a survey from AutoCAD and the contour lines are made up of thousands of connected line segments. I am trying to change their appearance from solid to dashed. I've edited the line appearance in the class but the contours show up as only partially dashed, which leads me to think that there are overlapping line segments . I'd like to convert all lines on each contour to a single polyline-can I do this? Thanks, Rose
  15. I understand what you are saying. In the plant record there is a field for "placement spacing". Is there any way to link that to the worksheet? As for the legend/key, I guess I'll have to upgrade to 2013 (I have 2012).
  16. Thank you for your reply. I am unable to enter anything in any of the cells in the new column however.
  17. I am trying to add a column to "Plant List-Simple" to show spacing recommendations. I can insert a column, and name it, but when I try to add text in the cells below I am not allowed. I tried to copy and paste text from another cell, but I get the following message: "The cells you are trying to change are not editable". I'm a bit stumped as to how to do a Plant Legend or Key w/ Landmark. I want to show each plant symbol and then its name. Ideally I could incorporate this into my Plant List-Simple, but I've no idea how. Any thoughts?
  18. Ok, I figured out my own problem. My drawing is at 1:1, so I have to manipulate the column height/width a ridiculous amount to get it to be the right size. I placed the worksheet on the sheet instead of the design layer and it worked fine.
  19. When I create a plant list it is very tiny on my drawing. I've tried manipulating the text, but that doesn't seem to help. I looked at a previous drawing I have w/ a plant list which is sized correctly, and the drawing is at 1/8"-1'-0" scale. I am drawing at 1:1 in this drawing, so I tried to change the scale to 1/8"=1'-0" just to see what happens, and the list still shows very small relative to my drawing. I've tried to alter column width, but the changes are relatively small. This seems to be a scale issue-is there a setting for scale on a plant list?
  20. Thanks for your comments. 1) Yes-I'm not sure what is happening w/ the particular plant "Acer Circinatum", so I assign it another name and then go back and edit. 2) It looks like my graphic is automatically assigned to the None class, even though that class is not current and is turned off, and I don't understand why. Here is what happens: I set my current class to Vegetation-proposed. The None class is off. I draw a circle and it shows that it is in the Vegetation-proposed class. ("Use at Creation" is checked in the Vegetation-proposed class, by the way). I create a plant symbol from the circle. The plant symbol is in the Vegetation-proposed class, but the actual graphic of the circle is in the None class (when I turn on the None class the circle appears, when I turn it off it disappears, but an outline shows for the plant symbol.) I've tried to edit the 2D graphic component-the circle itself-but it shows that the current class is vegetation proposed here too. Basically, I can't find where or why its assigned the graphic to the None class, and therefore can't figure out how to change it after the fact or ideally, stop it from doing that in the first place. For now, I'm just making sure the None class is on always, but its annoying. 3)I've set the tag class to Vegetation-proposed as well, but these don't show up either. It seems that I have to set my tag class to something separate from my symbol, and then it shows up. Again, not sure why. Any further insight you have would be great. Thanks so much.
  21. I've been trying to create plant symbols and having a number of problems: 1)When I try to create an Acer Circinatum specifically I get a message that my 2D and 3D objects are corrupted and have been replaced by 2D and 3D loci. Then my program crashes. This doesn't seem to happen w/ other plant choices. 2)When I create a plant symbol, the graphics are automatically assigned to the "None" class, even though I've carefully made sure that the individual graphics are in the class I want them in (Vegetation-New). 3)My tag leader line doesn't show up, and I can't figure out why. When I compare this file to an older one I worked on, it looks like in the previous file there were all kinds of new classes created automatically, such as Plants-components-tags, but this hasn't happened w/ my current file. I am wondering if this has something to do w/ the leader line not showing up. Is it supposed to be on this class? Did I miss a step where this class was supposed to be created? Help!
  22. I solved my problem, though I'm still a little confused as to how it happened. As I said before, 1/2 my plants didn't show up on my plant list. I noticed that the plant tags for all the plants were in the class "vegetation-new". When I switched the class for the plant tag on the plants that weren't showing up to "plants-components-tags" they showed up on the plant list. But 2 questions still remain: -The plants that originally showed up on the plant list still have the tag class as "vegetation-new" and these continue to show up on the plant list -When is the tag class assigned? Is this manually by me whenever I create a new plant or is it automatic? Would love it if anyone can shed some light on this..
  23. Thanks for your reply, and I'm sorry for the delayed response. All of the plants are plant objects, not symbols. (I have gone through the Getting Started guide-it helped me get up and running w/ VW2012) Do you have any other thoughts or suggestions? I ended up doctoring my plant list in my last drawing-basically inputting by hand, which makes the plant list tool pretty useless. I'm assuming its something wrong w/ the way I've set it up, and I'm hoping to avoid that problem w/ future drawings.
