But under what circumstances would you choose to save a favorites file in the application folder rather than the user folder? Especially when VW won't let you drag resources into it in the RM.

    for me, never.

by default, if you add a favorite file to the Resource Manager, it creates an alias (shortcut) of the file and stores that in the Applicaiton Support>Vectorworks> 2024> Libraries> Favourites..., see the attached screenshot.

A quick add for the Resource Manager, is to create an alias or shortcut of a file and drag that in the correct folder, then start Vectorworks. Just make sure the alias is from the correct version of Vectorworks. The refresh your library and the file appears in the favorites.

So yes good question Peter! Is it simply because the two Libraries files must have an identical folder structure for whatever reason...?

The reason for the two libraries is that one gets replaced when you  update the library, replace or re-install Vectorworks (the application folder)  , the other one never gets replaced (user folder stored in the Application Support folder).

Thanks, feels "good" that I'm not alone. I need to restart VW to get this to work, does anyone know of any other way to get back the cursor without restarting?

    Thanks!

as well as restarting Vectorworks, I would restart the computer.

I have text, both in the design layer and the page layer, however, when i jump into a text box, i cannot seem to select a specific place and the cursor remains at the bottom. I also cannot highlight the text either.

This is not my experience. When I double click on a text block in a design layer or in a sheet layer, Vectorworks will start editing the text exactly where I double click. If I right click on a text block and choose Edit from the contextual menu, the cursor ends up exactly where I right-clicked.

If I click if I select the text too first, then it's even easier to select where I want to start editing by just clicking on the text block.

This is different if I start using callouts or general notes. In that case, the text is controlled by the note in the database and you have to open up the editing area to change the note. I realised when I checked this most of my notes on my drawings I callouts, key notes, and general notes.

Nevermind - I figured it out. I was duplicating a window that was created in VW2023 before I imported this project into VW 2024. I had to create a completely new window in VW2024 to get it to display properly.

it looked to me like you have two different windows selected in each image.
