  1. Thank you, Pat. I found them per your suggestion in the user defaults(C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Application Data\Nemetschek\VectorWorks\2011\Libraries\Defaults\Color Palettes). Best, Austin
  2. Is there a way to add a customized color palette to the Default list (C:\Program Files\Vectorworks2011\Libraries\Defaults\Color Palettes)? Ideally, I would want an office standard palette available in the same way as the Pantones, etc are, without it being part of the "active document". Thank You, Austin
  3. Whoa. That method (.skp to .dwg to .mcd) returned a bevy of 3d symbols composed of meshes. I had never even heard of a mesh before. Since my last post I found this on the SketchUp.pdf on the Installer DVD. "A component which creates an opening is imported as a VectorWorks window or door, if attached to an object imported as a VectorWorks wall. If the component touches the baseline of the wall it is considered to be a door; if it does not touch the baseline of the wall, it is considered to be a window. "Groups and components are always imported as plain polygons in a symbol and do not generate any architectural elements such as walls or floors." Is it me or do these points seem somewhat contradictory? Will components be imported as doors/windows or as plain polygons? And, it seems that I need to ungroup everything except doors and windows in Sketchup before I import into VW. The ideal is the first point from the PDF. But, every Sketchup face will be imported as an individual wall/floor. Thus, if you have represented material thickness in Sketchup, it will be imported as two VW walls of the preset thickness (1 per face). Anyone else going down this road, yet? Austin
  4. I am attempting to import a Sketchup file that is setup with several layers (similar to a VW file - layer per floor). The Sketchup model is fairly articulated with the correct thickness of walls, floors, glazing, etc. I have tried all of the three geometry mapping options, but the output in VW is a 3d symbol (per layer) composed of 3d polygons. On the otherhand, if I start with a simple massing model from Sketchup, I get what I am looking for: VW wall, floor and roof objects. Is there a particular way I could set up a Sketchup model to facilitate the transition between the two programs? Are there thresholds of detail that the importing process can not accomodate? If all else fails, is there a way to take the 3d polygons en masse and convert them to walls? Thank you for your help. Austin
  5. If I paste multiple symbols from one drawing into the symbol edit window of another drawing it causes VW to crash. It took me awhile to isolate the problem. Originally, I thought the file size was getting too big. I thought it was polylines/DWG imported objects/like-named classes acting funky. So, after a restart, I created two documents from blank templates, created three very simple symbols, and recreated the crash. I can paste (or import) the symbols into the entire drawing, then cut and paste into the symbol. My quick answer to the problem is "don't do that, then." Yet, I am sure in the past I have pasted symbols into a symbol without a problem. Any ideas? Thoughts? Anyone else notice this (I couldn't find any posts)? I am scared of 11.5. Don't make me switch (until 11.5.0.0.2). Thanks for your help.
  6. I know my enemy and their name is "You can not join the cavaties of Y-joined Walls." While one sequence may work with one variety of wall types, it likely will not work with another. The tool works great with 2 walls of 2 wall types; but at a T junction with 3 types (or at a X junction with 4 types), I am conceding defeat because guessing the correct sequence just stopped being fun. I opted for making symbols of lines/polys/hatches to snap at corners. And, yes, wv_, all my drawings are perfect, accurate representations of what will be built on the field. Gee.
  7. I have recently been converting simple 5.5" walls into actual wall types with correct width and cavity lines. The cavity join tool works great for similiar walls. It works adequately for 2 walls. But, when I have 4 different wall types, I cant get it to work just right. Back in the day, there was the (adequately) magic Y join tool. I can't find it. Would it even help? Anyone have any technique or suggestions before I start connecting my pretty pretty walls with plain plain lines? I reviewed these threads: http://techboard.nemetschek.net/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=12;t=004363 http://techboard.nemetschek.net/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=12;t=003329 Thanks in advance.
  8. Anyone had any luck importing Sketchup DWG's into VW lately? I see that there are applications to import the sketchup files into AutoCAD Desktop and ArchiCAD. I tried and I get a 3-D model, sure. But, the solids are subdivided into hundreds of traingle shaped 3-d polygons. Where have I gone astray? For the record, our office design team is using Sketchup and the working-drawings team use VW and AutoCAD. We are trying to avoid buying ADT. Thank you, Austin
  9. Can anyone suggest software for either (or both) PC and Mac to log plots. Way back in OS7 days, we had adequate software. I am sure there are dozens(?) of options. Are there any that work especially well with cross platform VW? Thanks. Austin
  10. I am having the same problem. I also noticed that if I export the DWG and then import that file back into VW, that the font is still gone. Seems fine if I use certain system fonts. Any progress on this "internal VW" thing? On a related note, we're about to buy a new office font. There seems to be some variation throughout the BB regarding what is the ideal font type. We will be using this font on both PC's and Mac's, exporting/importing, AutoCAD, Vectorworks, Word, etc. Can anyone run down the (most current) pros and cons of Truetype, Open Type and Postscript? Please VW 10.0.0 on OS 10.2.3 (800 Mhz G4) printing (with effort) to a HP 500PS
  11. I created a solid intersection. Where is the volume calculation of that solid. The Info Window shows width, depth, heigth. Do I need to convert it into another type of solid, first? (VW 10.0.0, OS X.2.3)
  12. Our office uses both full size plots (HP 500ps) and half size prints (Minolta QMS 2060 and Canon iR 2200). Is there a way to change the lineweights throughout a drawing, depending on what printer/scale that I am using? Example: On a 1/4" plot my full height walls are plotted with a 26. On a 1/8" 11x17, the same walls would read as solid black. I would want to have some sort of option to apportion certain lineweights. We are a bi-platform firm; we use the plot styles table (.ctb files) on AutoCAD to control this issue. I guess there's a (painful) way to set up a template with workgroup references to override the class attributes. All props to Brian O's suggestion for class colors ( http://techboard.nemetschek.net/cgi/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=search_tng&d=multiple&record=2452598-184809-WX9H&dex=8 ). I just have this odd rumbling there's an easier, well-hidden way. Thanks again, Austin VW 10 OS 10.2.2
  13. It's true what they (pedro) say. The remedy was multiple restarts. I quit the application and restarted it. Same woes. I restarted. Same problem. I restarted again. All good. Also, pre- miracle, the option-click did not work either. I didn't try many more combinations than that.
  14. iMac 800 mhz G4 os 10.2.1 VW 10.0.0 carbon lib(it doesnt say under the os x system folder, my carbon lib for os 9 is 1.6) We have another identical system running VW 10, also, without the shift click problem. I thought I was losing it. I hadn't used VW since 8.6; I was scared that shift-click had been offed like a Sopranos support character. Please email me with any progress, or if there is NO progress. Thanks, Austin al@kovacarchitects.com
