  1. This perhaps could be added in the next version as well........
  2. In a way you did solve it Pat thanks! I think i found a solution that'll work for me.....by creating a reference grid with a very large size i basically only see 2 lines coming from the origin (if i start drawing near the origin that is), that'll do , the way the grid is displayed in 3D is just fine, i'll skip the wish list entry, i think our beloved developers have more important things to concentrate on! I discovered on the other hand that when you rotate your plan, a symbol (of the type i was looking for) does appear.
  3. I kind of find a visible grid distracting when i'm drafting(at least in plan view) so i never have it showing. I just like to keep track of where i am at all times because i regularly toggle views and do orbit rotations while drafting and i would like to keep track of where i am (preferably just a little symbol that's there in the corner of my eye all the time for reference)
  4. I would like to have a 'symbol'/indication visible in my drawing (in both 2D and 3D) showing the location of the origin (0,0,0) and the x,y,z / i,j,k axes. Anyone know if this is possible (yet)?
  5. Can someone please explain the subtle difference(s) between the 2D and 3D selection tools.....?
  6. Thats right Jeffrey! sorry it's apparently called the Mode Bar....
  7. Another nice trick that speeds up things is a smart version of the current direct number input in the data bar. ie click and move the cursor either along the x(or y)-axis and input the distance, then move the cursor along the other axes and input the distance, enter and done! the data bar automatically activates the right data field (no more need for tabbing any more). Understand? Now if you want to draw a vertical line you click, tab twice, input distance and click/enter twice, my wish: click, move mouse vertical, input distance and click done! The mouse direction movement kind of works as an automatic tab.....
  8. No, i mean when you activate a certain tool the tool options appear next to you're mouse (just like the floating data bar) in a little window, before you make the first click. Bentley had it a while back and AC has it now, i've gotten quite used to it and it saves quite a bit of mouse movement/mode group short-cutting....
  9. OK Pat thanks, one more question while were at it . I've created a layer with several DLVPs with a 'certain' class visibility combination, when i then create an SLVP of this layer the class visibility of the DLVPs seem to take on that of the SLVP, is there a way around this, is it possible for the DLVPs to somehow retain their original class visibility combination, not connected to that of the SLVP? Are you with me?
  10. How about the option for a floating Tool Bar?
  11. What i'm getting at i guess is, i would like to have one DLVP with a top/plan view and another DLVP with front view in the same layer at one time....is this possible? I've also tried creating a DLVP of a layer in the same layer, but wasn't able too, tips?
  12. Thanks Jeffrey, i must be missing something here though, example: if i take my story 1, activate left isometric view, create viewport (on to another layer), the viewport shows plan 1 in top view?! (When creating the viewport all options below the classes button are grayed including view settings? Any tips?
  13. Using quotes like: "There's currently nothing like ArchiCAD's TeamWork." "ArchiCAD absolutely wipes the floor in this regard with a feature called Visual Compare." you are suggesting it is a panacea. when discussing some of ArchiCADs capabilities you are suggesting they are state of the art.....i work with AC12 daily and i know this is not true. I'm not sticking my head in the sand... perhaps i have more faith in the VWs developers, in finding competitors strengths and introducing them into VWs when and how they see fit.
  14. These frustrations are equally many in ArchiCAD, believe me, there are probably equally many frustrations in all the programs at the moment, there is no ultimate solution, though everyone is working hard to get there. I have to agree with Ozzie and it has been said before, it's both irritating and not very constructive to constantly use ArchiCAD to prove VWs inadequacies. If there are good functions in other programs fine, but VW developers need to get there in their own way as they've been doing so far and that's why we collectively still use VW and haven't moved to ArchiCAD.
  15. Having said that, is it possible to have 2 DLVPs in the same Layer with 2 different views simultaneously....it's not is it.....?! Something for the future perhaps?
  16. Ha ha thanks guys, don't worry i really appreciate the 'new' DLVP capabilities and i am already using them extensively i promise , i hadn't realized until a couple of days ago that it was possible to change the view of the DLVP after it is created. ........it's also hard to change old habits sometimes in the heat of the moment.....
  17. That's what i thought, i did indeed add it to my workspace when i installed 2009, together with the other extras ie vectorbits, windoor etc. ....I am a little 'different' i guess, i work with ArchiCAD as well so i've been forced to do quite a bit of customizing to make the Workspaces as similar as possible , it's not cool trying to change from one program to the other daily and remember all the different shortcuts and keep them apart i can tell you!
  18. Wait a sec Charlie you just lost me there? I (thought) i just did it yesterday!?
  19. There you go....hurray for Layer Link and hurray for DLVPs Didn't know about the crop yet, i like that...off to try it straight away........
  20. Bye the way when i first tried it, it didn't work, it was because the lines didn't lie exactly over each other and the vertical line wasn't vertical, it only looked like it in the isometric view, when i spun it around i saw the mistake, in the next attempt i activated the constrain perp constraint to draw the vertical line. then all went well....
  21. I'll go through it step by step: first i drew a wall, pulled down one side of it to make it sloping, then i drew a line, using the 3d polygon, tool from one top corner of the wall to the other, next i drew line (3d polygon) from the middle of the bottom of the wall vertical to just under the top of the wall, then i used the connect combine tool. To get the snap for the middle of the wall bottom you need to 'activate' the corner snap points first, a middle point is then automatically created.... All this done in left isometric view and with the smart points constraint active (the smart edges constraint wasn't the one, sorry)
  22. Pat, i tried it using the connect/combine tool instead, that works.
  23. Not even with the smart edges constraint active..?
  24. How about drawing a 3D-line/polyline along the top of the wall edge as well, you should be able to extend to this (assuming you can click on the wall corners...?!)
