  1. I've finally managed to upload the file here as the original dxf.
  2. Will post a file at the weekend, as long as my mobile broadband decides to work! Thanks, Graham
  3. I've tried just about every different combination of import options with no luck. I think it could be because the model is made from symbol objects, as I had problems with another model that was similarly made of symbols. Using the scale option once imported doesn't work, frustratingly!
  4. Having solved one problem, I've now found another one! I've been sent dxf models of a couple of items of Vitra furniture. I cannot for the life of me import them at anything like the right size, and can't even scale them when I've imported them, without messing up the other dxf imports from other manufacturers. I'm beginning to wonder if they've been exported incorrectly in the first place. Does anybody have any bright ideas, or even would I be able to send them to someone to try importing themselves? Many thanks, Graham
  5. Thanks so much to both of you: I've now modelled a very lovely whiteboard! Help much appreciated...
  6. Hi all, I'm not able to put an image online at the moment, so hopefully I can explain my dilemma well enough. I'm trying to model a whiteboard for the office I'm working on. It is a rounded rectangle board, with a thin rebated aluminium moulding around it. How do I model this? I've drawn a rounded rectangle and the profile, but extruding along a path doesn't seem to work very well - the problem is I don't understand exactly how it works and so seem to get very unpredictable results. Ideally I would like to draw a rounded rectangle in front view, extrude it to get the thickness of the whitboard itself, then draw the moulding in top view, then extrude it along the path of the extruded rectangle, but I can't get the result I want, so I'm thinking I don't understand the fundamentals of how it works. Can anyone please shed some light? I've tried this before with picture frames, but I really don't know what I'm doing, and ended up having to rotate everything in 3d for it to be on the right plane (ie on the wall rather than face down on the floor!) Many thanks - I know this is simple stuff, but it's driving me crazy! Graham
  7. Thanks guys, I hadn't even thought about creating a group (oops!) which will make it all much easier to view as there are walls in front of it obscuring the view. I will try vincent's way and hope that I can get it to work!
  8. Thanks Ray, much appreciated! If anyone can solve my problem with snapping to the top of the wall to extend the path for the extrusion that would be great. I'll try Pat's suggestion of working in a viewport, but I find it odd that working directly in 3d the top of the wall isn't a snappable object, but maybe I'm not understanding something... Cheers, Graham
  9. Islandmon, Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I've got stuck before even getting that far. I've created a 3-D poly (a straight line) snapped to the edges of the door opening, seen here: which will become the path along which I will extrude the profile. I want to then drag this line up to meet the top of the (sloping) wall, but it doesn't want to snap to the top of the wall. I really want to work in a section view, rather than 3d, to create the paths for the profile, but the only section view I can see is to create a viewport. Any suggestions (if any of this makes any sense, that is!) Graham
  10. Hi all, I'm trying to model this architrave: but I'm not sure how to do it. I can extrude along a path, but how do I do the 45 degree notches into the vertical pieces? Thanks all in advance, Graham
  11. Thanks Peter, much appreciated!
  12. Hi all, No doubt an easy one, but not sure how to do it! I'm trying to model our office, which has a sloped ceiling - wall height 232cm at one side and 274cm on the other. How do I make the wall in VW have a different height at one end from the other? I see I can fit walls to roof, but I don't know how to make a roof yet... Thanks in advance, Graham
  13. Guy & Michael, Thanks very much for your replies. I'm amazed how swiftly and how helpful they are! Unfortunately I'm using VW11, so can't open Guy's attachment, but I've now managed to get it work. Thanks again guys - this was driving me crazy, along with a few other issues, so no doubt I'll be posting again soon.....
  14. Hi all, This is my first post here. I'm starting to get to grips with the 3D functions of Vectorworks, and am struggling a little bit! One of the things I'm trying to do is model a simple hollow wine glass and bottle. I want them both to have a thickness and be hollow inside. I've tried using the sweep function on a profile and then using the shell solid tool, but this doesn't work. Can anyone shed any light on what I'm doing wrong? Thanks very much in advance! Graham
