I am proposing is a simpler way of exiting the text tool and returning to to select tool. Since the X key doesn't work for the text tool, one must hit ESC, and then X. It's cumbersome.
I suggest when a tool is selected but the tool has not commenced any action (eg not having started drawing a rectangle) the ESC tool returns to the select tool. This would allow exiting the text tool in two quick strokes of the same ESC key. It would retain universality in function of the ESC key, and retain the ESC performance in reversing drawing actions, such as polygon vertices, etc.
The other way would be to change the key to key to return to the select tool from the X to a non-text key. This would be a big change for users to adapt to though.
