Framing Improvements

Taproot

Question

There is a LOT of room for improvement in the framing suite, so this is simply a few of the items that have come to my attention recently:

1. Create a "Post" tool with the capabilities of the "Detail Cut Wood" tool. In plan view it would show the profile of framing, blocking, or finish, but in 3D would show an extrude with textures.

2. Provide layout options for the framing i.e. click what side of the polygon to begin layout from, whether layout is to center or edge of the first and last framing members... Archicad has had this mastered for some time.

3. Rafters: I find this tool to be counter intuitive - rather than the bearing inset being keyed to the exterior of the wall (and the beginning of the eave), it is keyed to the interior of the wall and adjusts the eave length in and out by whatever inset is used.

Rafters should be set via the Plan pitch> Ridge-Wall centerlines & nominal framing offsets ... like in the real world.

Not set to the 'relative' finished interior or exterior walls ... especially considering the dimensional requirements of corners, hips, valleys & soffits.

Why does this matter ? Because of the roof decking fit based on the Rafter center > center spacing requirements

which must efficiently match the exact dimensionality of the Roof decking.

This where a Framing PIO would really be beneficial .. as checksum against poorly designed configurations which violate typical decking specs.
