"Offset" parameter is so frustrating . .

P Retondo

Question

It's usually the case that we want to offset a double line or wall from the OUTSIDE edge of something, not from the center. Figuring out what the offset is from the center of a 9.5" object when you want it to be 1" beyond the outer edge of something else, for example is . . . frustrating. I don't think I've ever wanted to make this calculation from a centerline in more than 10 years of CAD use.

The great thing about making this change in the program is that it wouldn't affect file formats!

Okay, I was confused by the use of the word "offset"

When using the Wall tool, you have 4 different control line settings (in the mode bar). One is for the outside edge of the wall as the control line, next for the centerline, then the right edge of the wall. The last mode let's you set a specific offset distance from the centerline (if other left or right edge).

The double line tool does not have this option, and should rarely be used to create walls for one of many reasons; this being one of the more important reasons.
