Tool Toggle

Brian J Poole

Question

I know that there is a special key combination to select and use a tool and then snap back to the previous tool used. However, back in version 8, all you had to do to toggle between any two tools was to repeatedly hit the key for any given tool. For example, you have the "A" key set to select the Arc tool; you have the "P" key set to select the Polyline tool; you've already pressed the "P" key and drawn a polylinee; next you want to select the Arc tool so you press the "A" key and draw away; to re-select the Polyline tool you could press the "A" key again and it would toggle back to the peviously selected tool (in this example the Polyline tool). PLEASE bring this back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't replace the current method, just add this one back in.

Brian, VW still works the way you say you want it to.

The new capability you are referring to is the "boomerang" system, whereby by pressing the spacebar along with another key you can temporarily change the activated tool. You will then revert to the originally selected tool once you release the spacebar.

That said, this in no way replaces the keyboard shortcuts for selecting tools. It sounds as though you are used to a custom set of shortcuts. The standard shortcut for an arc is "3", and the standard shortcut for a polyline is "5." You can edit the keys to which tools and commands are assigned by using Edit Workspace.
