I wish I could assign a 2D tree symbol to a Symbol made from a 3D image prop.

I think you can if you make a symbol from the image prop after placing one, with the 2D tree simultaneously chosen.

You can use an image prop as the 3D definition of a plant, when using the plant tool.

When creating the image prop, make sure you set it to be a symbol at creation - otherwise, place it in the drawing and then create a symbol from the image prop.

If you want to create a hybrid symbol (if you are not using the plant tool to place plants), select the 2D portion of the symbol and Image prop. Align both components so they are centered correctly, and choose Create Symbol from the Modify menu.
