There needs to be an option to select objects by drawing a polygon where you can select each vertex point. The rectangle selection mode sometimes makes odd shaped selections difficult and the lasso option is far too unwieldy and unpredictable. A 'select by polygon' option would ideally allow you to click on vertex points without having to hold the mouse key down so you can do a "transparent zoom" or pan to a different part of the drawing in the middle of the selection.
