ConnectCAD-Rack Mounted Panel Connectors

acardoza

Question

Can Panel Connectors be linked to a 3D Rack? When creating a panel layout you can make it rackable (RU and width entry) but it doesn't snap or assign to a Rack in the drawing. It would be great to link to a rack like any other piece of equipment can link from schematic device to Equipment to Rack. Also, without being in a rack it doesn't show up when creating a Rack Elevation through ConnectCAD.

Hello @acardoza,

Thanks for the file. The problem is that you are using panel layouts instead of equipment items. The workflow usually is to use equipment items and place them inside of the equipment racks and then create panel layouts just to get a more detailed view of the panel which you can use for reporting. So the short answer at this time is no, you cannot place panel layouts inside of 3D racks, you have to place equipment items there. However, here is what you can do:

1) Build up your 3D rack with all the equipment in it

2) Use Create Rack Elevation to create a viewport of the front or rear of the rack

3) Use Create panel view menu command to create panel layouts of the panels

4) Copy or cut the panel layouts that you wish to see in the 3D rack

5) Go to the rack viewport and edit its annotations

6) Place the panel layouts in there and put them over the front of the equipment items they correspond to

Here is an example file showing the final result. Let me know if this helps.

Best Regards,
