  1. Thanks, I tried the different modes, but they all seem to require that you know the length of each side you want first. I know one length, and the diagonal. And I don't know the angle of the diagonal. I could do it with math, but I'd prefer a way in vectorworks itself!
  2. This should be easy and I think I'm missing something easy: I have a line the is the length of the diagonal of a rectangle I need. I have the length of one side, 6". I'm trying to use the diagonal to create the length of the other side by drawing a 6" line, connecting one end of the diagonal to the end of the 6" and then rotating up until the end of the tangent is in line with the other end of the 6" line. The problem is, the rotate tool doesn't snap to the length of the object you are rotating, so I can snap to the right height, but I can slide along that height anywhere I want to. There's nothing to keep it at the right length of the diagonal I am rotating. I hope that makes sense, I have included an image of what I'm doing, but it's hard to capture. This has got to be easy, what am I doing wrong?
  3. I restarted VW, same thing. Only this one file.
  4. How do you prevent this from happening? (see image attached) Project was fine, rendered fine for a few weeks, then working on it today, this started to happen when rendering in openGL.
  5. Thanks, great resource! Trying to figure out how they are constructed.
  6. So I have to draft/model a corinthian capital that will need to be manufactured. Not sure of the manufacturing process yet as we are a long way from the bidding process. Has anyone modeled one in vectorworks? How did you even begin the acanthus leaves? The volutes? If anyone has examples I'd appreciate it too. I will not be copying them into my project, just want to get some pointers on how it was done. Thanks. P.S. I also need to do Ionic, but figured if I can do a corinthian, Ionic shouldn't be a problem.
  7. Did 'Duplicate in Place" change in 2015? I am hitting option+command+D but not getting a duplicate. I use this all the time and do not like the off-set duplication.
  8. OK, thanks so much for taking a look. Good to know it's a bug and not something we should keep trying to find a fix for! It was driving me nuts thinking I had changed some preference somewhere.
  9. Thanks for the suggestion, I don't think that's it. I switched off unified view and the issue persists. Also changed the trace layer to layer plane, and even deleted the trace layer entirely, but it didn't change anything.
  10. I have been working with a student building a 3D model of a black box theater. Her vw file is the same as everyone else's in class, but we're having a stranger problem when we switch to any view other than top/plan. When you use the flyover tool, blank spaces appear and "erase" parts of the model. All of her wall appear hollow (I have extruded objects in her file and found the same problem, she's not doing it wrong.) I have attached some jpgs showing the issue. Thanks.
  11. OK< thank you. I had to delete all of the instrument symbols in my current document resource browser and then Import them from the Default VW library. Replacing when prompted did not work for some reason (I had tried that before actually.) Thank you very much, the lights are on now! No idea what I did to get into that situation.
  12. I can't seem to edit the symbol in order to set the default instrument texture. If I right click I get all the lighting device options, but in the render tab in OIP it says Cannot Apply Texture to Object. Also, only the ETC Source 4s and Source 4 PARs are not working, other instruments seem to work OK. And the Source 4s work fine in the test document, so it has something to do with importing them into the current doc.

  14. Thank you very much I will check it out.
  15. How do I replace the default instrument texture?
  16. I have a couple of instruments on a FoH batten and just trying to turn them on! I've done the right-click "Turn on", got a focus point set etc etc. Nothing seems to work. This problem seems document specific as I created a blank document and tried everything and the lights work fine. So there is some setting somewhere in my document that is not allowing the lights to work. Any ideas? I have attached three images. One of a test document to show I know how to hang a light and turn it on :-) Works fie. And two of the actual file I'm working on, a wireframe one showing the positions and a Fast renderworks one, basically showing darkness. Thanks.
  17. Cool. Another work around! Thanks.
  18. They are symbols. I have attached a sample file. They seems to be stuck in both the 3D - Truss class and the RII - Truss class. I want them only in the RII - Truss class. Thanks!
  19. I use the drop down menu in the OIP to change their class to the new class I want them in, but when I turn off the visibility of the "original" class that the objects were in i.e. that I copied them from, they still go invisible, even if the class I changed them to in the OIP is still on. So they seem to be stuck in the class I copied them from, even when I change their class in the OIP.
  20. This is a fairly common problem I have and I know there is a simple solution but I can't find it. I copy objects and paste into a new class, and they retain the old class plus the new class. How do I remove a class so that they only have one class? thanks.
  21. I'd like to take a look at your webinar, but I get a missing plug-in error. What's needed to view it? Thanks.
  22. Thanks. Your description makes sense, but the workflow is a little different - I assume you didn't use the Create Plot And Model View function, but just created your own viewports? I had done that before but was trying this to see what the better workflow was. My main design layer (Design Layer 1) is where I have the set model, in which I need to see the physical instruments. I created a "Lighting Design Layer" (Design Layer 2) to create the lighting plot (in the end I won't be doing this, I'm the set designer, but we're both working on the same 3D model.) When I use Create Plot and Model View, that's what creates the "Definition Layer". So it all works great now, the only small issue I see is that the LD has to use the Lighting Design Layer for all of the non-vertical positions, and the 16 different "Definition Layers" - one created for each ladder by Create Plot and Model View - for the ladders. But that's his problem :-) Thanks so much for your help, I was pulling my hair out!
