[Equal division of a line]

I have a line of length x. I need to divide that line into, say, 12 equal segments by placing loci. I can't find any tool for that purpose. Any light shed would be greatly appreciated.

Currently, as far as I'm aware, the 3D chamfer tool only offers a 45 degree chamfer (unless anyone knows a way...). We need the ability to create unequal chamfers eg 30, 60 degrees or by distance.

Unfortunately it only offers a 45 degree chamfer, somewhat limiting it's usefulness.

I believe (from memory) that ADT has this facility. So it should be possible. Maybe then we could also get multiple components vertically e.g. brick up to 450mm and block above, or some such. In fact defining a wall style by section (a la Revit) rather than by plan seems much more sensible to me.

On the subject of the stair tool, can anyone tell me how to get the handrail to be horizontal at quarter landings? This is what I get every time - an inclined handrail, and it's very annoying:

Or do I have to model the thing manually? Which would seem to defeat the object of having a handrail component in the stair tool. Any ideas?

I agree with Christiaan here. We dimension the structural opening, not the frame, and not the leaf. The current Dimension External Walls tool is pretty useless as well, for that reason. If I gave our bricklayers a drawing showing dims to centreline of opening, and then referred them to a schedule, I'd end up in the foundations.

The way the tool works at the moment reflects the way we build timber roofs here in the UK, in that the purlins go under the rafters. However, if I were designing a steel portal framed building (a portal frame tool would be nice) then the purlins would go above the rafter. So we could do with a setting which allows us to specify the purlin location.

A good start would be to include LWA and RPC support into Renderworks. Lightworks supports both of these, so why not Renderworks? And I second the wish for a Maxwell plug in.

It's self discipline, that's all. I make my revision, add the cloud to viewport annotation and then print. I don't like my design layers cluttered with notes and clouds; all my notes etc live in Viewport annotations. But the key, I think, is to make sure you actually have got a system, or procedure that the entire office will follow, in place regardless of how you actually implement it.

As a one man band I don't have the same problems, in that I'm the only person working on the drawings, but agree that a date element would be an excellent idea if it was visible on the drawing. I'm not sure it would work if it only showed in the OIP. As for where you put the cloud, I've always put them in viewport annotations. It seems the most sensible place.

I agree with Christiaan completely, especially regarding the issue of cavity closures at window PIOs. A user defined wall cap end style would help enormously; the current component wrap just isn't any use to me.

I'm old fashioned, then. I keep a hard copy of each revision instead. When a drawing is revised to Rev B I remove the Rev A clouds from the file. At least it means that if I see a cloud on a sheet I immediately know that it's the current revision.

I think there has been discussion about this, but with no real remedy. I have the same problem with 12.5.1 on Win XP taking between 40 seconds and up to 2 minutes to launch. And, like your situation, it only ever happens at first launch of the day. These days I just live with it and go get a cup of coffee.

In addition, unless I've missed something blindingly obvious, why does the dimension exterior walls tool dimension to the centre of openings and not the jambs? Just being given the option would be nice (as in another, unnamed, architectural programme).

I use 2 walls, stacked. Not ideal but I find it easier than than the alternatives. The facility to create wall styles of this nature would be a real boon, as it's not exactly a rare occurrence in our line of work.

I think that what Javito means is that he currently has a collection of lines which he needs to convert to a polygon or polygons. The problem is that the endpoints of some of these lines are not coincident - there are gaps between the lines. AutoCAD has a "fudge factor", a user defined tolerance, which overcomes this. I don't think VW can do this, unless someone knows how to get around the problem.

Edit: just noticed the other thread on this. Mike is right: Chainmaker will do what you need.

ADT works in a different way to vanilla AutoCAD. It's more akin to VW in it's use of hybrid objects. I too found the VW approach confusing at first but, as you say, there are ways around it.
