  1. Hi Mark, you hit it on the head. If 'Unified view' is off then in 2D the pages stay in the same place. I do draw a lot in 3D so its flicking the unified view button between the various 'states' that takes some management. I have found when I do complex junctions in 3D best to put on their own layer and centre in the drawing both in Top and R/L view this makes managing the 3D much easier. Thanks for your help. Zoomer: I do use the page area 'CMD+4' a lot, I usually only ever print though from the sheet layers. Publish the docs, then print. Exporting the sheets does not work that well. My work style is setup the Page area and scale to provide an artificial border then work from there to the sheet layouts in the same page size. I see a lot of Autocad files where they do not work that way and have a 'football field' for a design layer, probably because they are always in 2D and need the constant visible reference. Thanks.
  2. Hi Thanks for the reply/s. I have turned on and off the "centre on objects after view change" this makes no difference 'Behaviour does not change' The saved views I do use but more for larger changes when I need to save other things with the view, may end up having to go there in the end. The current project is 12 apartments on a site where I am modifying one of them in a corner, (As Artv says) the total drawing content is too large to fit on a page, so keep dragging the page back to the corner to edit. It has worked in the past (but only randomly on various jobs) but I cannot seem to make it work now. The job started with a big import of existing .DWG, reset origins to centre of drawing and on and off with the 'Preferences'. Thanks for the advice....
  3. Hi, I have a multiple design layer and classes. Often I need to work in the same place in the drawing and switch layers to check or edit the object directly above or below. My question, every time I select another layer the page jumps back to the centre of the drawing, moving the page back into view for each amendment to the drawing creates much extra work and mouse clicks. I have tried every setting I can think of in the preferences and page setup but nothing seems to work. I have had the odd drawing work correctly but cannot seems to find the solution or setting each time. Appreciate some guidance. Thanks.
  4. Hi Allan, I think you are right. The original details files represents a huge amount of work to re-create from scratch. Sounds like I'll have to live with it.
  5. An update, Well, after 10 restarts and trial and error, I have nailed so far to one group of geometry for a wall cross section. I can select other details on the page and it will not crash, apart from this one random group. If I ungroup all objects at the highest level, then I can cut and paste. Leaving one thing grouped causes a crash.
  6. Hi, I have 2 drawings open one the main file and another with random details to use. When I select and copy details from the details file to the working file, I get questions about class visibility, turn on the classes etc, accept those then the program crashes. This has happened a few times with different files and continues after a reboot. I have resorted to the new layer import method which has worked in the past, but even now importing a layer through this process crashes the program. Has anyone else observed this behaviour? or is it a bug.
  7. Hi, I am working on best practice for our database notes manager. So far I have tended not to use it much but getting sick of typing it all out. My Question, what is the general best practice? thinking about the larger firms. 1 database with all notes set into categories? or multiple databases say walls, foundations, finishes, engineering and so on? Do you use a separate database for callouts and notes or generate from the same one? Do you use the database at all or just limited intermittent use for main items? I have searched the net but little info I can find on this subject. Many thanks.
  8. I have resolved this issue. Needed to have the layer overrides ticked which maintains the adjusted layer stack order from the original viewport on the design layer. Then need to manage whats viewing by editing the classes.
  9. I have a design layer with site data info, previously imported from a land surveyor. On this layer I also have a viewport of 4 other layers comprising the building model, so building showing on a site, rotated to fit site data. Creating another viewport of this design layer on a sheet layer for printing rotation and scaling which includes the site data and building model shows the roof layer of the original viewport out of order. In other words the walls and floors are showing through the roof. Can anyone help please. Thanks.
  10. I have been a part of the user group for over a year now and think the investment in time and money is well worth it. Its those narly bits we all know we should be able to do but have difficulty making happen and then after a training session and a review of the notes from the user group brings it all to life. On more than one occasion I have gone back to notes from a session to recall how to do something, like how to work the fabulous tool Windoor13 (A whole program on its own) the speed increase and ease knowledge brings to the table is invaluable. Join the group, try it for awhile its great... John-Paul
  11. Hi Katie, The program was dumping me when i created a site model. The model would create, then as soon as I tried to edit it or take a snapshot I would get the error message program has unexpectedly quit, in the end to chicken to do any more so was by passing that part of the program. Since then a few days ago I have been repeatedly verifying disk permissions, and have downloaded and used a program called "Cocktail" to clean up logs, caches etc. I have after this and after re creating the site model file seemed to be able to create a site model and play around with it in various forms. I save every few minutes and can make progress with the machine crashing much less often. If it happens again I will keep more detailed info and get back to you. Thankyou.
  12. Hi, I have been reading the general discussion area about vectorworks crashing. I have a powerbook 1.33 768mg ram running OS 10.4.8. VW 12.5.0 It is very difficult to move forward doing any sort of design work as my program also keeps crashing. so far I have not made it past a site modeling exercise based on a book from Jonothan pickup. I have reinstalled, run DU etc. Any ideas or fixes. Thanks
