  1. I recently got a copy of the font "Graphite" (multiple master) and installed it in the font folder. It contained a TrueType suitcase, a postscript printer font description. and another "document" with a .amm suffix. When used in Illustrator it displays properly, but in VW8.5.2 (and M$ Word) it displays as unsmoothed Lego.ATM is turned on. Are there any FontMeisters out there? thanks,Nicholas
  2. Indeed chris, but don't let "the other" side know; Drink from the Beer that brings cheer and not the Chalice of Malice ) BTW, if you want to see an example of what W3D can do that VRML cant; go to: www.lego.com/offroaders/game/game.asp and check out the 4X4 driving game. A little clunky on a dail-up, but on cable it's impressive. cheers, Nicholas
  3. Hi mathew,As W3D is "new", I'm not sure if this is correct, but as I understand it;.....Director is the first program to be able to produce an interactive "real" 3D environment that is capable of web-based application. That is; you can build a 3D environment, residing in your web server, that the punters can log into and "navigate" around. (not just go on a slide show or movie) Sounds pretty neat. (although I can feel an excess of "dungeons" around the corner)The catch is that Director needs the 3D file to be in the W3D format to work on.Unfortunately DXF won't do it.Given VW's capabilities, it would be good when I get my upgrade to VW9.5 to be able to build directly in it rather than having to go via a competitors 3D capable program Hmmmm Are there any plans to look at this export format? cheers, Nicholas
  4. Does/will VW9.X export W3D files (for presenting interactive 3D environments in "Shockwave") Here's hoping,Thanks,Nicholas
  5. Thanks Mark, I'm keen to try VW9, but I'm waiting 'till I hear a lot of happy voices on the Board saying how beautifully VW9.5 works for them. :] cheers,N.
  6. I'm using VW 8.5.2, on OS 9.1 with a Logitech optical wheelmouse (V nice mouse to use BTW) and I've got into the habit of using the wheel to scroll. My problem is that each "click" of the wheel is remembered by VW as an undo "instance". A quick flick of the wheel can eat a score of undos. I NEED my undos (even though I try to keep them set fairly low) Any ideas?? cheers, Nicholas
  7. Well it's good that nemetshek is adressing the issue, it's a shame that Apple seems not to be. Other buletin boards and newsgroups apart from vectorworks (e.g. Flash) are alive with video card/ driver issues associated with the Mac OS. These forums suggest that updating Open GL extensions and turning off game sprockets might yield some results ???
  8. After having read this exchange with interest (corruption problems) I took the advice of Brian and set the minimum to 12288 assuggested and the preferred to 64M and locked it. Going back later to check I found the preferred had reverted to 24M by itself! I did it again, and the same thing happened. PowerbookG3, OS 9.0.4, VW 8.5.2, 192Mb, virtual memory on. Am I missing something here??? Nicholas
  9. Thanks again Kenneth, I suppose doing things the hard way is the eternal burden of the young and the ignorant. I did learn a fair bit in the process of making them 'though. Yes, everything WAS fine; the symbols behaved properly, rendered well, looked "real" in the model. I checked out your suggestions and they are comprehensively "broken" now. Interestingly, the smaller door sizes, which I made directly from the finished original sized one, are also displaying the same artefacts, even though they never went through that stage of development themselves! I've just resigned myself to the fact that I've got corrupted symbols. Thanks for your help, I've got to go and say my mantras now; Save often, work on a copy; Save often, work on a copy; Save often work on a copy,.......... Nicholas

  11. My wife uses a beige G3 with a lot of graphics and web apps but Not VW. Since she installed OS9 (with updates) guess what? Crashes every 10-15 minutes specially when panning and zooming!!! She solved the problem by disabling all the extra video drivers and extensions that came with the system: now only good- old regular System 9 crashing. Hope this helps.
  12. Thanks for the response, but that doesn't seem to be the answer. Specificaly what I did was; made the 2D symbol in top/plan, duplicated it to start the 3D version, extruded the door jamb and architrave portions up to the required height, cut the mitres at the top using an angled solid subtraction, duplicated one side and rotated it to make the top part of the jamb, re-mitred the duplicate to the right size, subtracted the excess, and finally placed the top portion in place before going through the "create symbol" process and editing it for 2/3D insertion, loci etc. Then I duplicated, and re-edited them for different sized doors, and all was working well in 2&3D. It was some days later they went bungo. Now the 2D parts are o.k., but the 3D parts are all at the stage where the top part of the Jamb has been cropped, but the excess is still there, and they're not in position! P.S. it seems that the ones in the resource pallette are ok afterall: have I just got a corrupted file???
  13. After quite a few "valuable"-learning-experiences, I succeeded in making my first 2/3D (door) symbols. All was well untill I went back to the "Wall" layer after working in another layer and found that the 3D part of ALL the set of door symbols had degraded back to an intermediate stage in their construction. The same thing has also happened to the set that I had stored in the Resource pallette! Ejecting the VW preferences didn't work, nor restarts etc. Someone please tell me I don't have to make them all again!
  14. I'm not sure if this will help, but.................. In Australia we use the Metric system. This meant that when I (only recently!) started using VW, all the existing wall styles were effectively useless so I had to make a new set that matched the construction materials and methods used here. In addition, I've had to do measured Drgs of the existing building (e.g. from interior plaster to plaster face on 100mm rough-saw timber) and accomodate new construction (90mm dressed, kiln dried timber). As you're undoubtedly aware, dimensioning to the centre of a framing member is a pain (at least) when it comes to actually setting out the job; timber (specially modern machined timber) and masonry come "factory supplied" with edges, but not centre marks. By far the most convenient dimensioning system for construction purposes is cumulative "running" dimensions to the edges of the wall framing so that the tape measure can just be run out once and the increments marked straight down. Anyway, to FINALLY get to the point; what I did was to make a set of walls, each of which consist of all of the relevant layers e.g. 10mm plaster, 90mm timber, 10mm plaster; plaster, timber, cavity, brick, etc. the advantage of this is that VW draws the wall in toto, it's (fairly) easy to place existing walls from the inside plaster faces, and when you come to dimension the Drg, you can choose which element you want to measure to and from. This way any reasonable trades person should be able to place the walls on a domestic sized building within +/_ 2 mm easily. All this may not help your current problem, but good luck!

  16. I,m trying to import a VW house model into 3D Max to test renderings, but some segments of walls, and some window objects are not being translated. i.e. they disappear. I've tried many different export options, and looked at the VW original to see if there is something about the bits that keep going astray, but no joy. Any ideas?
