  1. Thanks for the quick answer Robert. You may want to look into updating the documentation to reflect this functionality. Rick
  2. Is it possible to print a presentation layer and a design layer together? TIA Rick
  3. Robert I've installed my brand spanking new copy of VW 11 and have been happily playing around with the new features. Good work! It would be great to add functionality to the ceiling grid tool so that one could reset the start point of the grid relative to the polygon that was drawn. With a little redefinition this tool could also draw floor patterns or wall tiles as well. And, while I'm at it, with the addition of an "offset" value the tiles could be staggered making this a great way to be able to set down various hatches on a drawing and do "what if" variations based on different start points to the grid. Thanks again for all your hard work. Rick
  4. Try using "Duplicate on Path Tool It's right there hidden behind the 2d Mirror tool (on many overlays) Gluck Rick
  5. This works a LOT better in VW 10.x because there is an option to rasterize the print output in the print dialog box. In 9.5.2 your only option is to export the drawing as an image file at a decent resolution and then print from an image editing application. Rick
  6. Hello all Think Hurricane Isabel is going to blow hot air throughout the northeast? This is nothing compared to the bluster and ill winds that will be blowing through our NYC user group. Our meeting is Thursday evening Sept. 18th at 7pm. We're going to be taking a look at the new 3d tools introduced in 10.5 If you're interested in attending call 212 343 8607 for location. Space is pretty limited so please RSVP. Rick Bernstein
  7. Cloud Imagine you have a nurbs surface which is an American flag. There is a rectangular surface to this with "u" defined as the direction that runs along the short end of the stripes and "v" defined as the direction which runs along the legnth of the stripes(I'm leaving the stars for later). No matter how much you deform the surface (the flag waves in the wind) you can still plot a point along the surface as so far in the "u" and so far in the "v". As was pointed out above a cylinder could be defined as being closed in "u" in which case the long end of the stripes would touch the star field or closed in "v" in which case the short end of the stripes touch the star field. Hope this helps Rick
  8. oishiinc Actually I have a fourth conviction which is not so deeply held. The scanner is a good idea. We print a set and then duplicate it using the scanner. Rather than tying up an architect for an hour or two opening files and setting up sheets to print you can get a high school kid in to just scan, print and bind. ps I'm located in NYC. If you want more details my url is www.threedt.com-my email and phone number are there
  9. oishiinc- I have a 25 Mac network mostly running OS 9 but with enough OS X installed to be able to comment. We have an Oce 9600 which is a very similar machine but with a separate processor, more paper handling and faster engine speed. I have 3 deeply held convictions: USE POSTSCRIPT Don't try to fool with the win2K print server idea. Oce sells a separate postscript simm for the machine. It may cost a little more but you're asking for trouble any other way. I use the Desktop Printer Utility to set up the printer via lpr. It's no problemo. After that it's like any other mac postscript printer. You have to know the queue name but any Oce tech can tell you that. FIGURE OUT THE PLOT LOGGING Oce tries to sell a megabuck application that only works on windows that won't account the plots sent via macs. I had to write a filemaker database to get the info out of the machine's log file so we could bill properly. This required upgrading the controller (easier on a 9600) If they can't show you how to do it with the 9400 look real closely at a refurb 9600 because the ability to accurately bill will pay for itself real quickly. DO IT They are fabulous machines. We looked at the Xerox at the time we leased it and there was no comparison in the quality. They are pretty reliable and they have real competent service techs most of the time. Watching that machine spit out 4 D size drawings a minute makes the users real happy (they go home a lot earlier than they used to) and the partners real happy (the machine paid itself off in 40% of the time we anticipated when we made the purchasing decision-it's now kind of pure profit)
  10. Julien Not sure if this will work but try exporting your geometry out to dxf and re-importing it, or alternatively import the land forms through some other format into C4d If that doesn't work you may have to convert to 3d polys Good luck Rick
  11. I am having a problem with my system which causes me to be unable to logout, restart or shutdown. In trying to isolate the culprit I went to my home-library-preferences folder to see what things looked like. I noticed that several preference files which seem to be related to the user interface and system carry the kind attribute of "VectorWorks Preferences" and an icon from OS 9. Some examples of this are Server Admin Favorites, com.apple.nsl.ui, NSL UI Preferences, Server Admin Favorites, CDDB Preferences as well as VectorWorks 10 and 9.5. Could this be the source of my problems? Is there any way to reassociate those preferences with their rightful owners? Any help would be much appreciated. TIA RIck Bernstein
  12. I am having a problem with my OS which causes me to be unable to logout or restart and I am trying to track down the culprit. I have no real reason to believe this is related to VW but I noticed an anomoly (sp) which I'd like to clear up. When I look in my home->library->preferences folder I see lots of preferences unrelated to VW labelled as Vector works preferences. For example the file Server Admin Preferences was created on 3/28/02, modified on 4/10/02 and carries kind attribute as VectorWorks Preferences. This is also the case with com.apple.nsl.ui, NSL UI Preferences, Server Admin Favorites and 2 or 3 more having nothing to do with VW. Is this possible to be the source of my problems? Is there anything I can do to fix the creator of the pref's? Anybody have any ideas. TIA for any help Rick Bernstein
  13. The spell checker doesn't seem to work consistently on a callout on VW9. Is there something I'm missing here?
  14. Toggling through classes to see what object is where is cumbersome on a DXF import. Therefore I propose that option-command-up_arrow moves you up through the class list just like you can move through the layer list without the option key depressed. Rick Bernstein
  15. I have often found the concept of the 2d reshape tool difficult to explain to new users because there are just too many functions buried in one tool. Therefore, I propose that a new tool be added as a flyout under the selection tool that would allow for the subselection of points (a hollow pointer tool as is used in freehand, photoshop etc.). I believe this would make the concept of subselection of points and multiple reshape clearer to users and streamline the present functionality of the spline functions of the existing reshape tool. The ability to add and subtract points could be mode bar choices of the new subselection tool Whadd'ya think Rick Bernstein
