  1. yep Maxon... ok so I cansider that is not a VectorWorks problem ! Just happy to know that... I will wrote now at Maxon, many thanks Robert julien
  2. Hi all, sorry for my bad English so I decided to add an image to correctly explain my problem. I work on a dtm generated in VW 10.5 (original/surce file from a AutoCad document). I started to add some massing object and do some terrain corrections. When I export this model to Cinema4D (using the cinema 4D plug-ins) I got some strange duplication of each object that I draw in VW + a lot of massing object are exported in 2 different orientation. In the right model sometime I got my massing models that are rotated and duplicated, so it become impossible (or really hard) to delete this object. I thinked that eventually I use too much differents layer and classes? the dtm and the site modeling update is for 1 layer massing modeling and some terrain modification (site modifier) are each created in different classes and layer. In Vectorwork I don't notice this problem, only in Cinema. Did someone had this same trouble ? How I can resolve it, did I a mistake in my work ? Any help is really appreciated, thaks in advance jdd - julien Mac OS X 10.3.3, G5 2x2Ghz, 250G disk, 4G Ram VectorWorks landmark 10.5.1 Cinema 4D 8.5
  3. Mark, ...I blush (more than can you think) and I'm ashamed myslef (hope I write it right)... Yep I was in a total panic situation for nothing... and is just... 'all application' and what Richard Giannini-Rugg tell on the linked message from raylibby... Just I need to read the new features in the OSX 10.3 ... hem hem I'm absolute sorry. Sincerly many thanks to all and thanks Mark for your simple an basic explanation for a simple problem. Ok I go to hide my self (well typical Italian expression...). Julien - Switzerland
  4. This don't works in Mac OS X 10.3.2 ALL VW FILES COPIED IN THE HD are dimpossible to read, they are transformed in a unreadable document for VectorWorks, so when I choose 'Application' to open and I try to select VW app, just VW is gray and is not possible to open ALL VW docuemts that are 'burned' in a ISO 9660 CD I tried to add or change the extension (.mcd / .vw) nothing change. If I will open the document from VectorWork (File>Open> 'the file') ... all VW files are gray and impossible to select... Strange that Cinema C4D (Nemetschek product too !!!) can open or from the menu File>Open the file is possible to select... just by the end is impossible to open it. Please help... All back up files on CD are not more redable and I can understand why... Just this look like the 'header' of the document is transformed during the burn option... This dosen't happen with MAC OS X 10.2.8 (and all new computrer that we have buy in the office now run with 10.3.2)... Just in a ISO 9660 formatted CD I ca see the VW Icon over the docuent... in 'Panther' not... Thanks for any more help ! I'm queit desperate... Julien - Switzerland (Sorry for some mistakes...)
  5. Sorry I use Mac OS X 10.3.2 I up-dated (now) Roxio Toast 5.2.3 Same problems using ISO 9600 format all VectorWorks and ONLY Vectorworks files are impossible to read !!! I can open Cinema 4D files or Illustaror files (taken from the same CD) but not VectorWorks document. Heeeeelp.... greetings Julien d -------------------- JD
  6. Hia all... I got a serius problem. I have VW 10.5.1, mac OS X 10.3 and Toast titanium 5.2.1. If I record a backup CD formatted in ISO 9660... is impossible to reopen the backups document with OS X 10.3. (But I can open it with Mac OSX 10.2.8) The document is transformed in a unreadable format for VectorWorks. But he can open by Cinema 4D (by the end... is an unreadable format...) The problem for me is quet serius becasue I can't re-open olds documents that I have saved on my backups CDs. Any other have this problem... exist a solution... did I do a mistake ? Thanks for help... sorry but I'm quiet nervous about this trouble... greeting julien d [ 02-21-2004, 11:38 AM: Message edited by: Julien ]
  7. ...happy to tell this at a AC user, hehe ok i joke... thanks for the information, i will show what we will do... in case I wrote you back when we find a solution next week. Thank you Katie for support greetings from Switzerland ! Julien [ 09-18-2003, 08:22 AM: Message edited by: Julien ]
  8. Hi all, I got a problem with another architect who work with AutoCad 2000. I made a plan with hundred of trees using a simple/basic symbol (created with a circle and a little cross) in VectorWorks 10.1.2. I export this document in dwg AutoCad 2000 format. All ok... Then the guy in AC try to make a substitution of this symbols with a new one. When he make the substitution all trees take the coord. 0,0,0 (far far away of the coord. system that we have). The don't stay at the same place, why? Is a VectorWorks exporting problem or is AutoCad problem... thanks for help greetings Julien
  9. Ty Rick Bern for this tipp. I will try it. Have a nice day Julien
  10. Hi all, for long time I search the best solution to have the possibility to create high quality 3D + movies with my architectural / landscape project. After long test with Maya / Lightvawe / Carrara / Cinema 4D, the best solution (when come out) was CInema 4D, because I had the possibility to have a plug-ins for work with VectorWorks + Cinema 4D. The plug is really great but surpize: I got a realli complex landscape project in 3D with VW. So I export the project and: "One facet or more in this file contain more than 1000 veertice. Cinema4D cannot handle such vertices, they were not exported" Aaaarg :-( This is not a problem of VW but a bad information of C4D, because when I buy C4D+VW plug-ins nobody tell me this kind of "limit"... Well If somebody use this plug or want to buy it pay atention at your 3D in VW and the numbeer of vertices... do some test export somtimes... that better. Hope that can help have a nice day Julien - Switzerland
  11. Hello all, I starting to do some complex 2D and 3D works and I notice that layer (like class) is time consuming to organize and manage when I have more that 50 of each, for examples. Is not possible to have a floating window for layer and classes and to have the possibiliti to organize it (moving up and down) only with a simple mouse/pen drag without clickink all time on up/down - bottom/top. For example I'm Adobe Illustrator user. I can crate maps with more of 100s layers and continue to manage an working with a floating window, and with a simple click I can decide to mask, see, or dispace layers order with selecting one or more layers and move where I whant... The possibility to have a free window with layer/class I sure that can be time saving. Well without change the actual layer class menu on the window bar menu, obviusly. Only to have new window, like object/simbols one... I hope that can be made for new version ! thank for eventualy answer. greetings Julien (Switzerland)
  12. I've got "same" problems. But I did a partition of my HD in 3 part: 1-Mac OS X, 2-Mac OS 9, 3- documents (On a 20 GB disk, G4 PB). So I can run VW/landm.+RW with no problems into the 2 partitions. I use currently an old HP 755 CM, and I can run/use it with OS X with no problems (use the PPD from classic OS, when I installed the normal device of HP with the X CD). IMPORTANT, remeber do make some large (more than 5 GB) for OS X partition. For OS 9 do some part larger tha your actual system folder+application disk+applications documents). Julien - Switzerland
  13. Dear Scott M. I had in the past same problems (on VW 8.x). Just a little problem, I work on Mac, but... Normally on mac (CLASSIC) I don't work with virtual memory (I know that's little bit dif. on Win). When I started to do some animation with VW I increase my RAM up to 512 (I think it's a good minum for good working) and a free HD (firewire) of 60 GB. More real ram you have better is for CGA. Some of animations that I created in VW the need up to 8 hours to be finished. Be patient! My computer (old G4) worflow was really slow dependig the kind of 3D obj. or 3D definition I used (LOW, MID, ...) on my drawing, and the kind of view that I programmed on the anim. If you want to continue to prepare some animations for your client be sure to organaise your work and star to render your animation by night, so on mornig you got it! Try all the times first a small anim (like 100/200 frames) with different parameters on your VW prefs and doc 3D prefs. And try to calculate the time you will need to complete all your anim. (Like me I'm a landscape arch. I got a lot of trees on my anim). A good (personal) tip: You can prepare your animation in small parts. For ex.: your animation of 1200 frms. -> create 4 anim of 300 frms and make your "montage" in Quick Time (Pro is needed) with a simple copy and past and saving like a self-cont. movies. For me it was a great solution. VW it's great to prepare son basic anim and a super&perfect CAD drawing and 3D modeller. I can't work with other application. Animation and movies render on VW, well it's pretty good, but not the best (personal opinion)... Other ways: I realise that animation was a good method to sell my projects so, after I decided to change applications for preparing movies, flythough and other CGA using low-cost applications like Bryce or Carrara. Using dxf export (and import in other application) + a good organisation with layers in VW you can easely texturizing your architecure after in other app. and preparing great movies with sky and ambient light an add a lot of trees. With Bryce you can use all computer in your office to complete you animation if they are connected, that great. But the job is always time consuming. If you want prepare professional anim you'll need some app. like Cinema 4D, Maya or LightWave.... This is another story... So, be patient, test before on small anim. project and do the final "monatge" with Quick Time of your part of animations. Good luck for the future. And remember computers need your comprehension! I hope that can help you Sincerly Julien Daulte - Switzerland
  14. How many MB of Ram have you and how longer is the animation ? Julien Daulte - Switzerland
  15. For emailing files: I've got for longer this problem (with Mac OS 9 or X to Windows user). I resolved it with Stuff it application (by Aladdins, see web site for more info). Before to send a VW document I add, if needed, the dxf or dwg extension then I compress my file in stuff or zip mode (.bin or .zip) and only after I send my file. (I don't have idea for AOL). Using this technique I never had anymore problems with AC users. Julien Daulte - Switzerland
